2004 Speedmaster with rocket on the face?

I found this for sale locally.

The ad claims it is a genuine 2004 Speedmaster, but that the case and movement do not have a serial number.

I am interested, but I can't tell if this is a rather good clone, or the real thing. Can anyone help ?

In a conversation I had with the VP of product development for Omega many years ago, he told me they made 2 prototype dials for the TinTin watch, that would look similar to what you posted in this picture (i.e. the Tintin rocket offset from 12 o'clock). He said one of the dials was in the Omega Museum, the other was in his desk. The Copyright holder for TinTin rejected the proposal from Omega, and the dials were modified to remove the rocket for the production watch. I find it highly unlikely that the dial you posted is one of those two prototype dials from Omega. Looks like someone had some fun making that dial. It won't be long before Tintinimaginatio s.a. (the new name for Moulinsart s.a.) issues a cease and desist order regarding that dial.

Hm. Well, considering I am in Switzerland, it possibly could be the one that was in the desk.

Have you got any other pics, possibly with less glare? My amateur hunch is that you may be up to something, considering the matching chrono second hand and the rocket colours. The location of the watch, the lack of serial numbers and these visual aspects sound all like too much elaborative work to fake a prototype IMHO.

Says it's coming from former Omega employee 😲😲😲

yeah, unless @repoman's fascinating lore was being told across Switzerland for the last two decades... Sounds like a huge conspiracy to me as an amateur. I hope the wide, unknown parts of the watch collection universe isn't as scary 😟

Btw this page (and the whole thread) from 2022 on OF is highly relevant to the discussion here: https://omegaforums.net/threads/speedy-tintin-information-gathering.33387/page-157

So some information about this prototype did surface back then. And if the design sketches were correct, then there seems to be a mismatch with this model: No checkered circle between the dial and the bezel and a different caseback than the Tintin cartoon.

But mind you, this is just a sketch and the produced prototype might have been made differently, just to speculate. Also, I like the matching colours of rocket's fire and the overall dial text.

It seems that this prototype is quite known by many collectors who might take their shots at this one being 'the one'. Wouldn't be surprised if the bidding for this one doesn't skyrocket* at this point 🍿

*Pun intended.

As this is such a unique piece... If anyone on the Forum wants it, I can act as a proxy and bid for them (not sure people outside CH can create an account and bid), BUT they have to promise to pay directly to the seller (if won, I naturally would put both parties directly in contact with each other for payment and shipping info).

That's a really cool piece, I'm a fan of Tintin and the rocket is a great addition 👍 Would Omega service that watch without serials?

No idea of it’s a legit watch, but it’s a great story. I would love to see one of the watch sites get to the bottom of it.

Hope this won't be a tropical dial disaster v2, but considering such archive disasters which even involved some former Omega employees, I grew more wary tbh... Good luck to anyone bidding!

It’s going crazy. Very small increments at each bid and the deadline being pushed by 2 mins at each increment. Currently at 11k from 5k around the time the auction was supposed to end 1hr ago.
