I was loving my new SMPc, but just today saw a mark on the FACE of the watch. It's never been in water and I've always had the stem screwed down. How does this happen? The second photo shows the second hand over the mark; showing that the mark is on the face and not on the crystal.
There also appears to be something under the left hash of 12 o'clock . Is this gray market? Maybe it's a second?
+1 Are you planning to wear it or flip it? If wear then you will do more damage, find more "How did that get there?" flaws, and so on. This was new once, 50 years ago, and in that time this is some of what I have done to it: On the wrist none of this is obvious, and we have 50 years together to celebrate. Oh, I have since polished out that scratch on the crystal. Purr-fect. Except for the scratches added between then and now.
Took me a long time seeing anything on those pictures.... perhaps not as bad as you think, being a bit overconscious?
The mark at the 12 o'clock position is a smudge on the crystal. I'm more just curious how something could get inside on the face. Is that normal?
Is it debris or a permanent mark on the dial? You would be surprised what debris can be hiding then jump out from the cracks. Static electricity or a nudge on the side of the case.
Could very well be "dust". A fibre of some sort, maybe? These can relocate within the watch. So it could have been inside since it was opened the last time.
I would be more worried about the fact that the fibre was even able to get into the timepiece, that is if it wasn't there before. That could suggest a breach, meaning the timepiece is no longer dust proof and thus maybe waterproof. Omega could deal with it, if it bothers you so much. That or a good watchmaker.
Fiber could have been hiding under a hand via static charge or even on top of one of the hour markers where it is hard to see. If it is simply a fiber, take it to your friendly Omega store, easy fix
Competent watchmaker, easy fix. Store clerk, dangerous. Bottom line: Is it something that is easily blown off or a permanent mark?
