I may try to remove the back - but initial numbers check out. I am not sure if I should risk damaging the case to confirm further. Goodness I like the watch - but I really hate knowing that I was conned haha. Is the clasp an authentic Omega or is it a knockoff? I will surf the forums to see, but I thought it should be brushed.

You said you bought the watch with the steel band, so most likely it came from factory on it and the seller added the steel deployment at a later time. (the one I had came from factory on the leather band instead; it had a polished deployment with a gold Omega logo, which am almost certain did not came from factory with the watch).

Looking at your deployment I think it is genuine and am pretty certain that the deployment would come from factory on a polished case watch would be polished as well.

I think based on pictures $1500 with both steel band and genuine deployment, box and paperwork was a great price, so stop tormenting yourself and enjoy your new baby! 👍

It definitely has the original bracelet. I also have some other documents showing the purchase of the leather band, albeit in a language I can't understand. Receipts match the sales documents.

Thanks for the advice gang. I am sorry if my complaints sound petty - in the long scheme I bid a price I was comfortable with paying. Whether it happened by fraud or through actual bidding, I should just enjoy my new watch.

If it's any consolation, I paid more than $1500 for my 1996. I absolutely love it, think it will appreciate as you don't see many around, the 861, and the silver dial were the least common (black and white produced in greater numbers).

Does anybody know which type of box is original to this reference? I have seen so many different boxes with this particular model.

Mine came with this inner and outer box plus all the original paperwork. I agree it's confusing when you see so many box options.

I don't believe my watch box was an original - mine came with a large red square box. It's definitely an Omega box but I believe @Sgt_Bilko 's box will be on my radar. It would be fun to have a complete set.

I'm only assuming my box is the original for this reference, because it has everything else right down to a receipt for the deposit, so evidently the original owner liked keeping it all together. I've tried searching online, but cannot find anything conclusive about the box.

The original receipt shows that mine came with a leather strap, but I rather like the stainless steel bracelet for this watch. These are pretty rare to find separately in good order.

Well gang - in an unlikely plot twist I received an email from the seller (off eBay) and was offered a $100. He wants positive feedback out of the deal - which is not going to happen, but I feel vindicated.

Good for you! $1500 was great, $1400 is better! [emoji1303]

It may just be a coincidence at the moment. When I have looked around over the last couple of years, most have had black or white dials. The silver dial with silver hands is very elegant, though somewhat difficult to photograph properly and the pictures don't generally do it justice.

When I first had the watch I found it a bit tricky to tell the time and figured functionality had been sacrificed for aesthetics, but within a few days I found it no harder than other watches.

Just back from Swiss Time Service and good to have it back on the wrist, complete with a new strap.

According to the omega database: https://www.omegawatches.com/planet-omega/heritage/vintage-details/14804/, the silver dial is the rarest, yet 90 % of the watches I see are silver dialed ones. What do you guys think, what is the reason behind this? White should be quite common, but I've seen only a couple of them.

These date from 1993 - 1997 and they include the Cal 861 manual wind movement that was also used in the Omega Speedmaster by both Russian and American astronauts. It's an elegant dress watch with a chronograph that was not in big demand for a long time, but seems to be attracting more interest now and prices appear to be rising.

They come with three different dial colours including black, white and silver. The case can be stainless steel, gold or a mixture of both. You need to check and see if the watch has been serviced recently, but if not this is a job for an Omega specialist. The Cal 861 is a wonderful movement, so this is a watch that deserves respect and should last a lifetime if treated with reasonable care.

There were several versions of these watches, including all steel cases, two tone cases like this one, and even a solid 18k yellow gold case.

This reference with the white dial and gold hands is Ref. 43402100.

The same case was used for models with a silver dial, and also a gold tone dial.

Cheers, Al
