A lovely watch to wear every day and I'm only surprised that they seem to be so rare.

Certainly not rare. It come out in eBay often. But as dsio said, this is not particular favorite model for many people. They prefer the more vintage Deville 861 from 60's or even older early 60's Cal 320 / Cal 321 dressy Chrono (with Seamaster or no Seamaster label).

I can only ever find one or two on eBay regardless of age and sometimes in poor condition. Run a search for Speedmaster 861 and hundreds appear. Also when I did a general search on Google I could only find this watch mentioned in a couple forum posts, which both happened to be on this website. I can understand though why some would prefer the older watches.

I know I'm late chiming into this thread and it's actually my first post on the forum but I bought one of these last week and it's a ref 48403100 with the silver hands on the silver face. It can be a little tricky to read the time compared my other watches but somehow that can be forgiven. It's definitely not a sports watch and I find it quite elegant but I'm just amazed at how little information there appears to be on the internet.

This is by far the newest watch in my collection of roughly 30 vintage watches and I was under the impression it was all stainless steel, so I'd be very happy if it turns out to have a white gold bezel. I have all the original documentation including the bill of sale, boxes and warranty card. It was first sold in 1997 and is an 861.

The ref. 48403100 is an all stainless steel case, so no white gold on that one.

Cheers, Al

My 861 has been with an Omega accredited watch repairer now for twelve days awaiting an assessment and I'm really missing not having it here but equally I want to know for sure whether the movement needs any work. This wasn't the only watch I took in but it's the only one I'm impatient to have back on my wrist.

The watch is also one of my favorite daily wearer.

The 861 is so tough that you sometimes hear stories of people using them for 30 years without servicing and because I really want to keep this one I decided it was important to have it checked out quickly. The winding action felt smooth but required more pressure than my other manual wind watches, however I gather this is fairly typical for the 861. I also tested the reserve and it lasted just over 48 hours. It was was running +20 seconds per day, which I am sure could be improved with regulation.

I positively hate the doodads, beads, bands, ropy dopey stuff on the wrist. Get rid of it.

Mine, a recent acquisition, also says hello. I love this relatively simple, but interesting watch!

Very nice leather bands! [emoji1303]

I'm sourcing the steel bracelet (1508/835 or 1509/836) to wear it both ways!

Lovely. I see they drew inspiration from these when creating the later Co-Axial DeVille in my collection.

What a coincidence! I positively hate random opinions given on the internet from schmucks who I've never met.
