1974 166.0098 strap replacement?

I have a 1974 geneve 166.0098 from a family member, but the strap is well worn and has picked up some mould in storage. I’m not sure if it was the original strap or not, but want to replace it with an appropriate one and am not sure where to look - can anyone advise?
It’s a lovely watch and feels like it deserves something nicer than a bog standard high street replacement which would be my usual approach!

there is no one "appropriate" strap for this or other watches, but in general it is a dress watch so black or brown leather would be nice, more refined leather maybe, but there are many choices and many prior threads on this if you use advance search feature you will find strap reading for days. One of the more entertaining is this one below. It does give some principles to follow, if you care to do so! If you are like many of us you will buy 4 or 5 before deciding you have found the one- but the hunt for the right strap is part of the fun.

With gold I prefer dark brown (black is ok too, but I don't wear black shoes and belt).
Pigskin or lizard, IMO it is important that it is thin.

I’m definitely keen on a dark brown leather…I presume getting hold of an original 1970s style omega strap (I’ve seen them with a distinctive buckle) is unlikely?!

you can look around but leather this old is often hard, cracked, or moldy and smelly. If you want to splurge there are good bespoke options look at Torre Straps on IG and also Watch Strap Heaven who is OF member @jankoxxx
