Just read this all the way through. Correctors don’t look factory made. Modified case?
Why ? Here are two others from my collection ?
Same ?

Watch needs servicing, one pushers is pushed in, the other two are functioning. Yes it's a HUGE conspiracy to make a UG Tri-Compax with a JH case ! LOL. I've collected UG for 40 years Larry. I currently own 7 examples. I've owned the watch for 20 years !

Yes, magnified pictures are a bit deceptive, I actually thought the gold Tri-Compax with the claw lugs looks a bit funny under magnification ! This 18k HJ case Tri-Compax is probably an early one that is somewhat of an anomaly. When I got it it had a redial. The current dial is a service dial, I'm going to replace it with a very old deco numeral Tri-Compax dial. Just need some hands that would match the dial.

@rolokr - I know that dial ...

Top of case is correct. At a guess it is an early 40s ... However, case back may not be. Could be adapted from an earlier uni compax or compur. Case back is easier to modify than working on top of case. That sort of work requires a jig as tolerances are in the thou range.

Back from the spa, I really like the watch ! If only the case was not polished as much, but the watch in person looks very nice !

I would actually put back the serviced dial with the current authentic hands if it were me.

Here is what appears to be a gold HJ case for a Compax - so we know they weren't just made for Compurs. If it was made for compurs and compax maybe it was also engineered for Tri's.
This is a UG sales catalog I saw on ebay from the 40s.

also interesting to note the HJ case only comes in gold and the Spillman at the bottom only in SS

This is one of those classic UG unknowns. It could be modified or it’s entirely possible another example will turn up at some point, I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see more.

I'm posting some info I found interesting- that shows how difficult it is to gauge some Universal Geneve watches from the perspective of the WIS collector who equates "commonality" with "originality" in terms of Universal.

This is a page from an old Universal Geneve sales catalogue from the 30's I found in an Ebay auction.
The text on the catalogue page translated into English from google:
When ordering chronograph-computers or dials, indicate the reference numbers and the paint diameter of the dials

The ability to choose a variant of dials to pair with certain cases, and the murder mystery this gives us today when something shows up previously unseen but feels right...

More Ebay gold in terms of research. Check out this page which appears to be a Universal Instructional for Retailers in the US.

The last paragraph is important in terms of Universal's penchant for customizations for clients: You know that on account of their superiority Universal watches are in a class of their own. Universal watches are watches of high precision and unquestioned quality yet they offer a very considerable choice of designs. That is very important for your clients who are thus assured of having a watch with a personal touch.

This ad is from the 50's according to the sales tag on Ebay.
