To be honest, excluding the bezel and even with the severe lume loss I find the watch rather attractive. Is it worth 7k? Depends if someone is willing to pay that amount for it...

Personally I wouldn't buy it solely because I'm a jackass of a collector who wants more and more his watches to be at least at 90% condition (and that costs a lot sometimes)...

Just my 2 cents 😉

Thanks!
There is some room for negociation, it might be a nice beater if I get it for a nice price...
It would seem to fall into the « fair » condition according to speedmaster101, wouldn’t it?

Dibs on bracelet 😗

Agree, That 1039 bracelet is kind of nice.
Looks like the date stamp on the clasp is 2-69.

Try to find a nice DON Bezel for sale.
I have no idea how much a good quality one costs these days, maybe $2500?

Then, use the replacement bezel cost to negotiate down the price of the watch.
So, $7000 + $2500 is $9500 and that is just too much to pay for it with a nice bezel.

That's why I asked in an earlier post in this thread, is there anyone who restores DON bezels?

So it’s objective value is closer to 5-5.5k than 7 if I understand correctly...

I believe you understand correctly IMO. Please understand also that I believe everyone is talking in US dollars. Thinking in euros might be a different story...

The idea is that the bezel condition lower the value .
We got it right !
But most old speedies have marks on bezels
Unless it’s been replaced.
if it in great original condition the watch is way too expensive .

you can ask for 5k but you will probably won’t get it at that price . Like it’s been already discussed
5k would be for head only

I agree with you in almost everything you said... but an all original and great (near mint) condition watch can hardly be “too expensive” 😁

Well, I talked to the seller and he says he won’t go below 6k€...Still much higher than speedmaster101’s guide, right?

Let me ask a slightly different question that isn't so focused on value.

Why are you so interested in a watch with such an ugly dial and bezel? What would you do with it? It's not appealing with the huge flakes on the bezel and patchy lume on the dial.

Let's say the seller was willing to sell it for 5000 Euros, and you felt that was consistent with the Speedmaster101 price chart. So then you would buy it? Why? It's still a lot of money in absolute terms for a watch that isn't attractive.

Don't chase watches because you think they are bargains. Instead, look for the best watch you can get within the budget that you want to spend.

6k sounds ok to me
If it’s the money
Buy the head only

This is an interesting idea (buying the head only).

Let's say you buy the watch for the seller's price.
Then, you sell the 1039 flat bracelet for $1000 - $1500.
You can get a nice flat bracelet from Uncle Seiko for $89 or so.

You'd have the watch for approximately the price you wanted to spend on it.

I'm new to the Omega world but am fascinated with the brand. I have deep appreciation for the members here who are so willing to share their knowledge. I learn more in a week than I ever did pre-WWW, and particularly pre-OF. Thanks.

It’ s called « vintage »/ « preowned » Dude.
If he wanted a perfect one he would go
To omega store and get a brand New one.
May be you should read the posts on his topic from the begining
Instead of lecturing people and giving them lessons !
Some of us found it attractive .

Honestly, I would wear it without caring and then, when I eventually get bored of its flaws, I’d probably sell it minus the band I’d keep for my 165024.
It really feels like an honest well worn toolwatch which is in the end what it was intended to be...

Do you really want to look at a dial with lume in this condition every day?

I wouldn't ...
