Hey OF community,

As mechanical watch enthusiasts, what are your thoughts on hour-hand misalignments?

I’m talking about the somewhat common 2-3 minute misaligned hour hands caused by slack in mechanical movements.

This is evident across many mid-level manufacturers. Pics below (publicly posted pics, not mine. Credits to the respective owners).

Is this something that would bother you and demand having it fixed? Or would you let it slide and enjoy the watch?

Me personally, I’d wait till the first service interval. Thanks in advance for the feedback!

In a couple of those photos (Seamaster and Explorer), I can't even see significant misalignment. So I think you must be much pickier than I am about how the hands are installed.

If it isn't obvious in daily wear I wouldn't worry about it, if it is obvious, say, on the hour I might be inclined to get it adjusted. Fortunately I've never had a watch where it was off that much.

I don’t see a problem with yours 😉
These aren’t mine! Just some publicly posted photos on the internet.

The one you posted would drive me crazy! Is it yours?

I think it is easiest to view misalignment with the hour hand at 12:00. If it’s a problem, I just fix it myself.

BTW when people want top show misalignment of hands, please place the hour hand at 12, rather than the minute hand at 12...thank you...

Makes sense. Then you see exactly how many minutes the hour hand is off by.

Not my pics though, for what it’s worth.

Yes, I know, but it was not directed at you - just anyone who wants to show the misalignment.

I have so many questions!

The watch was from a member here (Stuart - haven't seen him here in years) in the UK who sent it to me for service. I emailed him when it arrived, and asked if it had always been this way - he confirmed it had, right from the day he walked out of the AD with it. He just never bothered to get it fixed.

From the factory, perhaps, but is that within spec for Omega? That seems insane...

No, far from being "in spec"...

slight thread drift... last time I saw Stuart he was about to change his life, end his career and move to Aus to get married. He was very happy about it too 😁
