I stopped at a yard sale this weekend and picked up 3 watches for $40... an Omega, a Longines and a Caravelle. All look good and are working well but will be serviced and polished very soon. The Omega has a caliber 563 and the Longines has a caliber 370 I didn't necessarily want the Caravelle but it was a package deal so I didn't argue. Not bad for $13.33/each
Ya did a good job and perhaps this post of yours belongs in the "watch treasure hunting report" thread
Great score - the dial on the Longines is interesting - original? Wasn't certain with the bottom cut off in the pic. Congrats!
That's whacked, did the sellers not have internet access for a basic search? Congrats on this, stuff that dreams are made of
This just speaks to the point that Fred always beats on- boots on the ground is the way to find the real treasure.
.......or the ebay listing with the really crappy picture / description Got this one from ebay for $23 delivered. Simply thought it was fake. Nope. REAL!
Nice pickups, congratulations . Yard sales are a much better option than thrift stores these days, the stores must have more time to google stuff as I often see crap watches for top dollar. Yard sales on the other hand offer more variation; a few weekends ago I picked up a classic midi keyboard for a fraction of its value. And they had free donuts. BTW I especially like the Caravelle Ultraman
Ah! I didn't realize there was a treasure hunting thread. If I move it will this one be deleted because it'll be a double post? If so should I keep this one because it's been commented on or delete this one and post there?
Thanks! I believe it is original, the people holding the sale were VERY small town and simple. I doubt very much they would have an original replaced or altered. Here is a pic of the entire dial.
I agree, I was very excited when I saw them. Most of the watches you find are either junk or beat to death but these 3 are really in very good shape.
Not sure, I didn't ask They are selling their house and I really do think they just want to get rid of everything.
Honestly, I ask at EVERY sale I go to and if they say they don't have watches I leave so I can hit the next sale. A few months ago I asked if the sellers had any watches and they discussed it with each other for a minute and then said they did have one and went in to get it. Long story short, I bought the watch they brought out for $75 and sent it to my trusted watchmaker. A few days after he got it he emailed me and asked me if I knew what it was, I said I didn't and he proceeded to tell me it was a handmade pre-revolutionary solid 18k gold French Verge Fusee 1/4 repeater and it is absolutely beautiful. Total I have $275 invested in it and it's worth thousands but I'll never sell it because I'm sure that either I'll never see another one or, if I do I certainly won't be able to afford it.
