New member who joined yesterday. Seems to be trolling the WTB threads and referring members to [email protected] who supposedly has the item being sought. He PM’d me about a watch strap I’m looking for. When I replied questioning his new member status and asking for details, he disappeared.

That explains the message I just got and that I could not find him anywhere.
My antenna were up, but not enough

This is a common scam actually and has been around on many other forums that I frequent for a couple years now. Please be careful!

Just being curious (and stupid), i responded. Got an offer too good to refuse. The Zenith i was after at about 40% of expected cost, and a generous offer to use Paypal family and friends. How could i say no?

somehow i found the inner resources to consign the email to my junk file

I got one from him, too. What is odd is that although the PM appeared to come via OF (emailed to me), the conversation thread is not in my inbox and when I click on the email button to "view this conversation," I get an OF error page saying "This conversation could not be found." Has this guy been wiped from OF already by the mods or have these guys figured out a way to hack OF?

Not sure. Exact same thing happened to me. The conversation was deleted from my private messages.

And apparently Justin Morales in Massachusetts has the #16 end link I was after for sale too - evidently I can thank the "member" later..! (Liest2)

Just about fell off my chair...

Had one like this to a WTB I posted a few weeks ago for a Bonklip- I asked for an image and he sent one. I cross checked the image against the web and it was a screen shot from eBay.

That said, I had a new member (2 posts 4 days old) respond to a WTB a few years ago for very rare hands. I kept the conversation going, asked for tons of pics and he met every hurdle. Finally I took the plunge, it was only $200, the hands arrived and all was well. He went on to be an active member here. Sometime it’s legit, but 99% of the time it’s not. Trust that feeling we all instinctively have of predators near by.

I’ve been looking for a HF caseback for my 105.012-66, and I received this message from Liest2...

I responded to the email and soon was contacted by the mysterious Mr. Morales who offered me an excellent condition caseback but only sent me a pictures of the inside for an astounding 600.00 dollars, unfortunately caseback was marked “CB”. I wrote back that it was the wrong caseback and that I needed a “HF” caseback and he sent me this image, asking if this is what I needed...

. I told him, yes, and asked for an image of both sides on top of today’s local paper....
Let’s see where this scam goes from here.
BUYER BEWARE.... there are A$$HOLES out there.

I’m sure they’ll be back too, if you get anything suspect especially anyone new sending you an email to contact just hit the report button or PM a moderator before going further. The reason they do the email thing is they know they’ll get banned and lose the ability to keep PMing.

Send him on a wild goose chase. Tell him you also need a @#2 case back and see if he can find a picture of one.

As soon as you start becoming difficult to them, they ghost you. They've been doing this long enough to know when they have a true "fish on."
