So, after too long, my most ambitious bit of tinkering yet. My first three register chronograph service - Lemania 1387 (Omega 681). My first replacement of a mineral crystal and I had to replace the hour recorder hand. The nearest Omega one was too light in colour so I had to mix 3 parts Humbrol 48 to 5 parts Humbrol 47 - that experiment took a few dummy runs. Also had to broach the Omega hand to get it to fit (another first)

I think it looks good on its new bracelet.

Fantastic! Quite an accomplishment.

How's the time keeping?
Any tricks you want to share about setting the chrono hands?

Will try to do that before I head off to NYC tomorrow Lou. My photography skill is bad though and I'm only equipped with iphone 5, but will try my best.

The time keeping is pretty good. I've been adjusting it over the course of this week. It is running at an average of +11 seconds over 4 positions.

Positioning the hands is quite easy. You mount the watch hands then start, stop and reset the chrono to make sure that the mechanism is zeroed and just add the sub-dial hands and the centre seconds - job done.

I think there may be more to the cousins thing than you think. I have been trying (unsuccessfully) to find if there was a link between August Reymond SA and the Richard Watch Company, but I think there must have been one.

When you bought your Richard, I thought it might have been just a standard product that Lemania sold to both companies for them to add their own branding. However, a few weeks ago, I spotted an Arsamatic on eBay. This has a Lemania 1340 movement and that particular one has an oscillating weight marked RICHARD. I think that it is too unlikely to be mere coincidence that a watchmaker needed a weight for an Arsa with a 1340 and just happened to have one kicking around with Richard on it, so I believe that there must have been a tie-up between the two companies.

I love the dial on the Arsamatic but at the original asking price of £1,200 they can keep it - as indeed they can at its new price of £1,000.

Rather striking on the wrist...and fiendishly difficult to photograph with a point-and-shoot or iPad.

Hi Stewart,
What is the case reference number (inside of case back)? If it is a Lemania it will normally be a 3 digit number with (optional) a "-" and a sub number.
Example 883 or 883-68.
I have plenty of examples of Lemania made complete watches where other makers have had their own brand name put on the dial.
😉

I'm very impressed!

Hand setting on vintage Tri-Compax models isn't nearly so easy in my own, perhaps inexperienced, hands.

The Ensembl-O-Graph series suggests that you should depress the upper pusher while setting the sweep seconds, minute subdial and hour subdial hands. In any case, getting everything to properly reset to zero can prove a maddening experience, even when the tubes are properly tight.
