There's a saying in Texas. You either have feral hogs or yer gonna have feral hogs.
About an hour from our home we have 165 acres, very remote and which is situated mostly along a lake shore. Never had hogs until this year, but they have arrived in abundance and have taken over to the detriment of deer and other wildlife. They are remarkably destructive and are damaging our internal roads and the yards around the two cabins. Some of the place is unimproved and is fairly brush choked. That is where they like to hide out.
Spent the afternoon attempting to flush the hogs out, but to no avail. There are just too many places they can hide. Sometimes I get one. Most of the time they get away unscathed. Their numbers need to be severely curtailed. Temperature was near 100F and I'm not tough enough to crawl about in the brush for long hours at a time.
Tracks of mostly young ones.
A veritable hog highway leading up a hill.
A large economy sized one.
The State of Texas offers assistance to landowners in the form of a hog eradication program. We don't mind a few feral hogs, but that's not the way this has turned out. A few multiplies alarmingly. It's looking like we have "too much of a good thing" and I've already contacted the agency.
