Thanks to @No Mercy I was able to recently scratch a really bad itch I acquired; the lust for a Seamaster with a striped dial. Great seller and a font of knowledge, too. I apologize for the scratches on my arm. I have a cat that I enjoy playing rough with. He shows his deep enjoyment of a belly rub without regard to the damage it does to my flesh; and yet, I persist. The watch: The cat:
I have one of these also bought new around the same time period I may have to dig it out a get a battery in it..... very cool
Her ladyship decided to look out her Bulova for the evening which gives me a chance to wear her Seiko,
I received a phone call recently from a retired engineer who had been advised that his Accutron 214 would require modifications in order to function with modern batteries. It had been decades since he had worn it, and only recently had it surfaced again. The watch was given to the owner by his father in 1965, when the was 16 years old. He expressed great interest in the principle of the tuning fork technology. I asked him to bring it so I could check it out. I thought it would be an opportune time to wear the Spaceview so I could show it to him. He brought the watch. It had never been opened in the 53 years he had owned it, and it was in beautiful condition, aside from the original gasket being mangled. I cleaned up the case, polished the crystal, replaced the gasket, fitted a 1.55 volt Renata 394 cell with adapter, and put it back together. Set it to the second, and checked the rate for one minute. Runs fine with the 394 cell. He's thrilled, and several days later, he phoned to say it was running perfectly.
