I slipped through the portal to Omegas alternate universe. A little like when Alice entered Wonderland I was confronted with all manor of strange things from sarcastic squirrels to Beagle herding Alpha males. It is rather an unusual place where for the majority of the time the mood is light and friendly with the odd altercation caused by the rogue recalcitrant that slips through the protective cyber screen but are swiftly dealt with.

It has been a truly entertaining thirteen years and I hope I am around to post similar in the next thirteen years.

Thanks to Ash, Trev and the mods for making it a safe and enjoyable place to play.

Yep, old Vespa and old Lambretta. Beats walking but the occasional push is not so great馃槈

Good to see.

I gave up my scoots just over a year ago and while I miss them, I know it was the right choice (back/knees wrecked by sixty years of riding, local traffic becomming more dangerous).

My little electric car fills the need for what I used my scoots for, and I can keep dry!

And if the "need for speed" takes me, I have the lovely VW T-Roc R to fill that role.

You鈥檝e promoted me to check my joining date. Looks like my 13 year anniversary is Jan next year!

As an aside I always fancied a vintage scooter. When I was a teenager in the late 90鈥檚 my mates dad had an Li150 and Sx200 restored. One was factory and one modded out like Ace Face鈥檚 GS. Things of absolute beauty!

Just found this thread, which is a heartwarming commendation of the Forum and Forum staff, as well as a salute to Forum denizens everywhere.

Gratitude exhibited for blessings and good fortune is not often expressed these days and it is nice to see it in this thread.

I鈥檝e only been here 12 years. I鈥檝e been haunting hobby forums for 25 years now and have moderated two of them, still moderating on one of them.

This is the best run forum ever!

Looks like I'll be celebrating my 14th year here in a few days, myself. I no longer have the Omega that brought me here, but I'm happy it did. This is an excellent forum, the sense of community here is terrific and even when you only own one (or no) Omegas you'll find plenty to discuss and share.

Thanks Ash and Trev for building such a welcoming place.

How did you become aware of the forum?

Were you involved with any watch groups before joining?

Did you know any other members before joining?

What did the forum feel like: did it feel smaller and intimate, or did it feel like an unknown expanse, etc?

Did you think the forum would become as big?

Did the forum have a dominant personality, and if so, did it change?

How has the forum changed the most since the beginning?

How has your watch collecting been influenced by what you've seen on the forum? For example, is there a favorite watch you now have because you first learned about it here?

Is there a member who no longer participates that you miss? (I have a couple).

Do you have a prediction about the state of the forum in ten years?

Are you annoyed by endless questions?

A number of these questions have crossed my mind since I posted.
Without responding to each i will share my thoughts.
I had been lurking on the forum for a while prior to joining, i had been lurking since purchasing my straight writing speedy and was researching a 2998 purchase. Fundamentally i stumbled across the forum.

I had been a member of VRF some years before and it was a totally different dynamic.

As to being a founding member, I don鈥檛 consider myself as that, but at the time I didn鈥檛 realize the forum was so young.

I believe this forum is totally unique as the level of caring to and for fellow conspirators is second to none. Yes there are those that truly don鈥檛 belong and they either leave by choice or force.

This place goes way beyond an Omega forum or for that matter a watch forum. It is predominantly inhabited by people that genuinely care and display interest in whatever you are in to.

People I miss definitely, there have been a lot of interesting souls come and go. I miss the squirrel for his tacit tongue, bent sense of humor as well as his sarcasm( i am an Aussie and sarcasm goes with the territory馃槉), I miss Alpha even though we all believe he has gone to the forum in the sky it would be nice to be able to say good bye.

Has the forum changed, no, it has grown bigger but still the same friendly place and that all comes back to Ash and Trev to keeping us all grounded.

This forum seems to be well-managed and relatively free of the jackassery I've seen in other forums over the years. To the ownership here, good job.

Work started in late 2010 and it went live in March 2011 so a bit over 15 years now. Definitely some things change and we have more changes we鈥檙e working on but it doesn鈥檛 feel that different from the early days for the most part.

Tell that to some of the first time salesmen with their thinly veiled "I am a grandma and found this incredible watch in a sock what do you think of it???" posts.

Today is my 14th anniversary. While some things have changed here, the overall feel of the forum is still the same. We all came here because we are a little nuts for watches and most of us have stayed for the community. Like @Barking mad I miss Dennis' sense of humor, immpecible taste, and sarcasam. I am saddened that we may never get closure for Alpha. But, there are plenty of you that I appreciate and enjoy chatting with regularly, whether about watches, cars, or whatever else. I hope that as the forum continues to grow, which it seems to, it stays a tightly knit community.
