IMHO, some 35 years on, still the best looking wristwatch design, EVAR. I've never been able to circle the square as to why watch "enthusiasts" (is that what they're called?). hate two tone watches and seem to reserve extreme hatred for the Submariner TT. ???? Anyone wanna handle that one??? Tool watch, shmool watch. Go buy a Seiko or a 50 Fathoms or even a ScubaTec. (I own all these so I sorta know what I'm writing about).
This again (still). 30 year old GMT Master II. Big wrist, big watch. Liking it, a lot, after it was in the vault for about 2 years.
Damn. Just got home from a trip, so I’m not limited to two watches. (I took the UK Ed White and the -66CB.) So, as soon as I arrived, I put the Istanbul Ed on (see above). Well, I got to thinking about my -74, the one I bought in a pawn store in 1982, the one I was married in, the one I used to time my wife’s contractions with our first born. So, I got it out, wound it and set it. I haven’t worn it in ages (now that I have so many other pretty horses). It’s interesting to look at it now with a collector’s eye. Lugs sharp, some dings but unpolished, nice lume and hands. Undamaged bezel. I wore it for about five years in the 80’s. Only been serviced once, and that was after I knew to avoid the pitfalls. Anyway, in staring at the dial, I found I wanted to look at an Ed White and the 145.022-74 next to each other. I took this photo. Honestly, in nearly every way, I prefer the Ed. I like the cleaner dial with long hour markers and short markers in the subdials. I like the AML. I like the smaller pushers and the simpler case. Personal opinion, all of it. But, I think it’s interesting to see these two side by side.
