·Damn.
Just got home from a trip, so I’m not limited to two watches. (I took the UK Ed White and the -66CB.) So, as soon as I arrived, I put the Istanbul Ed on (see above).
Well, I got to thinking about my -74, the one I bought in a pawn store in 1982, the one I was married in, the one I used to time my wife’s contractions with our first born.
So, I got it out, wound it and set it. I haven’t worn it in ages (now that I have so many other pretty horses).
It’s interesting to look at it now with a collector’s eye. Lugs sharp, some dings but unpolished, nice lume and hands. Undamaged bezel. I wore it for about five years in the 80’s. Only been serviced once, and that was after I knew to avoid the pitfalls.
Anyway, in staring at the dial, I found I wanted to look at an Ed White and the 145.022-74 next to each other. I took this photo.
Honestly, in nearly every way, I prefer the Ed. I like the cleaner dial with long hour markers and short markers in the subdials. I like the AML. I like the smaller pushers and the simpler case.
Personal opinion, all of it. But, I think it’s interesting to see these two side by side.
