I think the purple goo only came on watches with case back engravings or medallions.

No. Just looked with a loupe. It appears to be some odd pattern of tarnish. Not visible to the naked eye, natch (at least mine).

STARTING to get obsessed?

I've been in lust with this watch for years! Owned it 2 or 3 now, and drooled over it since I saw it in a magazine on an airplane LONG before that. Didn't help that somebody on TZ had one back in the days I used to post there.
