It's 106 degrees and Leo is just chilling...

I don't get it, it's freaking hot. He does not seem to mind the heat.

Thanks, I like radial placement of numerals, but like your outer track in white.

Any idea on a date?

Yours have a 16 sided back like this with "pat no. 2229979 ? Looks like someone has tried to get into mine with no luck sometime ago. Is this truly a screw off back or one made to appear so?

I can work on your Alpina watch!

In the middle of Hwy 67 some years ago I just happened to find an actual wrench for opening the Alpina watch. Always meant to clean up the wrench but haven't gotten "a round tuit." You will notice that it is the heavy duty model.

Just took these photos for you in very late, yet harsh afternoon sun. It's still over a hundred degrees out there! What's the deal with that?

I'm guessing it's really a snap back. I just got around to having this Alpina serviced in June. Before the rehab, it kept time to within a minute a day, even with a second hand that swept the dial unevenly (haltingly in places). It's great now.

Poor watch must have been owned by a welder. Its bezel had a few tiny spatter marks and one tiny lump stuck to it at about 4:00. Bezel cleaned up fairly well. I have no recollection of acquiring it. It's always just been hanging around, neglected. I'd inquire of my watchmaker about the back, but he's on vacation until September. Probably to avoid me sending any more ratty watches. The watchmaker said "around 1950" to a query about its age. His warranty card provided for his work shows the watch to have a 17-jewel cal. 588 movement with a serial number of 242988.

PM me TexOmega, if you want me to open your Alpina watches.

1965 Glycine Airman. A.Schild 1700/01 movement with the wire hack. Crystal could do with a polish but at least it is the correct square date magnifier.

Previously I did not consider the CK2998 attractive. I don't know why but that photo has changed my mind.

Please join me in cheering on the Solar Impulse team as they are just a couple hundred miles from Abu Dhabi and completing their round the world mission!

Wearing my Solar Impulse HB-SIA which came out in 2008. Sorta gives an idea how landing today will be the culmination of a very long project for these guys.
