Does your F300 have a discernible hum? I suspect one/more of the coils in mine must be going.
You're hearing the tuning fork. It's quite normal and why they're affectionately called "hummers". Here's an appropriately named thread: https://omegaforums.net/threads/f300hz-hummers.54758/

Switching to a lazy 5 ticks/sec from the Valjoux 23 in this Roamer Stingray Chrono Diver...YaY!

Monday, time for a change.
Feeling out of sorts this morning with a couple of appointments for dental work later on in the week and this one always makes me smile.

Does your F300 have a discernible hum? I suspect one/more of the coils in mine must be going. I don't know anything about quartz watches but when I put a fresh battery in the one I could open, it works but up close you can hear it humming.

Couple things. These Omega F300 models are NOT quartz! They are transistorized electro-mechanical. If memory serves me correctly, quartz watches appeared on the scene circa the late 1960s. The F300 has a tuning fork which is caused to vibrate at 300 vibrations per second. That is the humming you are hearing. The tuning fork utilizes an index jewel and a pawl jewel, each on the end of a tiny spring to drive the gears that cause the watch to run. If your watch hums but the hands don’t reflect the correct time, the watch needs servicing.
