No need to face-palm. Take On Me is a near perfect song and the sooner you admit that to yourself, the better
Every music lover has a few records that were just so pivotal to a period in their life that, even many years later, hearing it conjures vivid memories and feelings from that period. Boxer is one of those records for me - brings me straight back to the fall of 2007. It brilliantly captures the transition from a careless cocky, irresponsible youth to the emotional responsibilities and burdens of adulthood. Finding meaning in love, balancing friendships, all in the context of personal evolution. It is a masterpiece.
As Crocodile Dundee might say, "That's not a speaker; THESE are speakers." This is the NASA Large Reverberant Acoustic Test Facility. Give me an hour in that room with a guitar and I could die happy.
A bit of retro Aussie prog / fusion today, reliving memories of my college days Down Under. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ayers_Rock_(band)
That's weird. I was listening to this yesterday and thought about posting it here, but was afraid it would fall on deaf ears. Love or hate this one, there's no in-between.
Love Sublime, as my username would hopefully suggest, so lately I've listening to Tribute to Sublime. Jack Johnson right now.
We VdGG fans need to stick together! But you’re right, there’s not a lot of middle ground. Even reviews at the time were polarized - per Wikipedia, “Allmusic calls the song "monumental", but believes it is "not as concise as it might've been".Mojo on the other hand, calls the song "preposterous".”
Well just a follow-up post on this one. We made out way to Toronto on the weekend, and Saturday night we attended the final Saga concert. Standing room only for the general admission tickets at the Phoenix, so we were constantly being jostled and felt like sardines most of the night. My back was killing me, my knees were killing me, and my feet were killing me, but stayed until the very last note. My wife was certainly a trooper since she knows I'm a fan and stuck it out until the end with me. Met a guy in line from Florida who had made the trip up, and there were several international fans there too from Japan, Germany, etc. The fact that this was their farewell concert wasn't really mentioned, other than Michael Sadler making a comment about the elephant in the room and that they were not going to "go there tonight", and just wanted us all to have fun together with the music. You could tell they were emotional at times though...played several encores and didn't seem to want to leave the stage at the end... Although they have been around for 40 years and have 21 studio albums, it was mostly early stuff they played, and that was fine with the crowd of die hard fans attending: Overall a great night!
