What was it 29 years ago jerry died? Damn
Could never get into 'the dead', God knows I tried! (Where's the doobie and bong emojis?) Same with zappa (even though I'm a Steve vai nutswinger!😁) worked well with hawkwind and ozric tentacles in my teens though along with some tiny pieces of paper soaked in something weird that we swallowed 😁

Hey it’s all good. So much music exists it’s a subjective matter. I think Garcia/Hunter teamed up to write some great lyrics and musically they were one of the few bands that could do a 15 minute song and I’d think “that’s it”. But through 20 years of touring and 10’s of thousands of shows they never were a “top of the charts” band they always were niche it seemed. Jerry sure could play that guitar. “Once in a while you get showed the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right” great lyrics. But hey, to each his own

Absolutely, totally appreciate the talent and musicianship, and all art is subjective as you pointed out, wasn't trying to denigrate in any way, was just pointing out that they 'should' be my cup of tea as it were but for whatever reason they never clicked with me, but I totally agree that Garcia was a fantastic player.

No I didn’t take it as you were denigrating the dead I was just a bit stuck as the anniversary of Jerry’s passing and I was in a dead cover band for years. As a matter fact I’m kinda like you with Zappa. I saw him once, realize he was an absolute musically genius but I couldn’t get into his stuff regularly. I do doubt the humanity of people who don’t like the Beatles but that’s something I need to work on.

Perhaps another good example for me is Tom Morello. I don’t really care for the bands he was in or a lot of his music but he is probably one of the best most creative guitar players walk-in around right now. I do like when he gets together with Springsteen or the other old rockers. Morello is absolutely amazing I’m just not into a lot of his music.

But this I love
Now I’m not a great player. Actually I’m better at bass but anyone who picked up a guitar or appreciates good music knows that Tom morello may be an alien because I don’t think a lot of what he does is even possible

I remember reading a nice memorial Alan parsons wrote where is friend and one of his favorite guitarists passed. It was just written so nicely and heartfelt. Last year Ian Bairnson passed away and what a great and very underrated guitar player he was. Both he and Parsons seemed and seem like truly nice humans

Caught Wil&Co (not Wilco) for some Canadian roots rock at a farm concert the other day. Music outdoors is the best 😎

Saw Wil quite a few years ago - if I recall he was opening for Jann Arden at the time. Jann Arden was my wife's choice, but I thoroughly enjoyed Wil.

Playing this on the turntable. The album that started it all for Chicago. Terry Kath was an amazing guitarist.
