That was Gary Puckett! Gary S was an Australian who had his only British number one hit with this song in 1976. Sadly, he died a year or two back.

My friend TripleM's heavy metal radio show. Heavy metal is one genre with which I'm not very familiar and I've been surprised to hear some things I've liked on his shows.
