Came across this as I was listening to Pavarotti I think because perfection was mentioned in the comments so often.
I never played drums seriously but I played with numerous drummers, I noticed something, you can hear every note buddy rich plays, I don’t know if it is perfection but damn what a fine drummer. Apparently he wasn’t supposed to play a solo here, he was supposed to count off four beats for the band, doesn’t look like it was showing off, looks old like Rich was overcome.

That's such a great clip.. His hand speed was incredible..
I thought I'd look up the piece that it's taken from to see it in context, and found this version remastered in 4K 60fps, that technique on the hi-hat, playing the lower symbol with his left hand and counter pinching, and the upper symbol with his right hand whilst using his left foot is unbelievable; and all whilst wearing a three-piece suit, shirt, and bow tie😲

Did you ever see this? I have not but my buddy has it on file and I gotta get him to send me the documentary. I know you are big on the ox as well. Hard to say “greatest bassist” in my mind I’d probably think willie Dixon or James Jamerson but the OX gotta be on that list

Thank you.. this looks amazing, I have to see this!

James Jameson, Willie Dixon and John Entwhistle..
Three absolute geniuses, so very different, but I genuinely couldn't pick one of them..
But the very sad demise of James Jameson was criminal, such a great talent and hardly ever credited.
