Spectacular Aussie Shiraz, spectacular Coonawarra Cab (best 5 barrels reserves from the best bintage the winery has has since 1980) and a lovely Le Mesnil
Tonight's wine choices did NOT suck: 2001 Chateau Montelena (feel privileged to have 6 more) 2007 JJ Christoffel Ürziger Würzgarten Spatlese (feel sad that this is the last of the case) Some others over the last week or so: 2015 Keller Limestone Kabinett (see comment on next bottle below) 2015 Keller Limestone Qba (a certain rebuy - already have a case combined of Kabinett and Qba, but want more) 2010 Dublère Morey St. Denis Les Blanchards 1ere Cru (meh.) 2003 Lagier Meredith Syrah (meh.) 2001 Fontodi Flaccianello della Pieve (there aren't many Italian wines I even like but this I really dig)
2009 Arrowood Late Harvest Riesling, Saralee's Vineyard. Satisfying my sweet tooth. Tomorrow night is wine club so I'm looking forward to a nice buffet of American Cabs. That ain't amber, that's dark brown, almost porter-ish. Dude, there's some interesting beer near you. I foresee a southbound 1.5 hour drive sometime for me to scope out some of those establishments.
Come on down!!! the first round is on me and we'll make them label their beer correctly! I have one spare couch for you to crash; yup there are some interesting brewers in the area.. https://duclaw.com/beer/misfit-red/
We drank a really nice Gognac recently. I always thought I don't like Gognacs until I tried this one. DELICIOUS!
Cognac is really sensitive to the glass, I use it as an example when I teach glassware. An open glsss like a old fashioned glass kills the flavor. You really need something with a bowl to trap the smells. If you ever get a chance to try it with right/wrong glasses. It will taste like 2 different liquids.
