Received this auction lot of 4 bottles today. '57 D'Oliveiras Madeira, '77 Kopke VP, '88 Taylor Fladgate LBV, Taylor Fladgate 20 yr old tawny. The purchase was prompted by some of the excellent VP posts from @ulackfocus, aka "the enabler".

That Maderia will be delicious. I had a woman who's father passed (and was a great collector of wine) offer me first pick of his cellar before she sold the lot. She made me a list of the wines, her notes in several instances read "1971 Boat" or "1969 Boat". Couldn't figure out what those were....later saw them and it was Boal 🤦

Most people drink tawny and LBV relatively soon, which is generally what is intended by the producer. However, that means most people miss out on how good either can be with some bottle age. The best years for Vintage Port are also the best years for LBV Port, so lay those suckers down for a decade or two.

The 2015 German Rieslings are coming out. 😀 Popped a Keller Limestone Kabinett open for lunch. Lots more acidity than I expected. Very nice - I bet the Spatlese and Auslese are killer.
