@Jking I’ll def try it, all reviews inc yours look like it may be an ideal match for me. Price is a plus. EC 133 is my go to for most mixed drinks, I can’t handle it need unless a good bit of water added and then I lose the good flavors.

I just made a whiskey sour and added an egg white, so it’s a “Boston sour”. Damn good, the egg white gives it the cloudy look but causes a nice creamy flavor. I’ll be doing this again.

Just little off the topic but not entirely; I bought a single malt scotch whiskey yesterday. When I reached home I saw the date of packing as July 2015. Since it’s 3 years old in bottle that is properly sealed, is this its usual best or I should go back and change the bottle for a latest date.
Please advise. Regards

Your all good as long as it looks filled to the proper level. Anything over 5-10 years and storage conditions can cause degradation mostly due to alcohol evaporation and rarely oxidation.

2 notes always add the egg first 😉 that way if you break the yolk your not throwing the whole thing out. 2nd add 3-4 normal sized ice cubes and shake like hell, you should get a nice foam head on it that should enhance the flavor.

Also I prefer to squeeze freash lemon juice, it works better and is comparable in cost. I squeeze a few at a time and use a funnel to store it in those handle bottles with the plastic stoppers attaches with a metal hinge. You can get them cheap through Ikea or with fancy French Soda sold at Sprouts or Whole Foods etc. it will keep for a few days in the fridge. I also Pre make simple syrup 1-1 by volume and store it in the fridge for a week or 2 with a shot of cheap vodka per 1 cup of water to make it last longer no need to heat at that ratio. Don’t believe any other recipe for it, this gives you the most control in your drinks

@Foo2rama Thanks for the tips, many times I try and make due with what I have on hand. I def prefer fresh lemons, but non available in the fridge. I’ll try the egg advice, but truth be told a lot of times I build to taste, so I’m adding whisky or whatever until ready.

Btw, how do you like the Woodinville? The distillery is near me, Hennessy owns it now but all the ingredients are WA grown. I actually plan to go visit soon.

Got it as a gift. The 100% rye is f’in amazing. Never heard of it before and I’m floored by it.

Great to hear that. They’ve won some awards, and a lot of support around here. They have a highly rated “bourbon” finished with Oloroso sherry butts I’m going to buy when I visit. That’s my kind of sippin drink when just neat.

Have spent the last few days drinking the best wine I had never heard of before - Valtellina.

Unreal. I am now completely obsessed.

After a lesson from @Foo2rama on mixing, I made an Averna sour complete with proper foam.

Averna Sour Cocktail Recipe
  • 1 1/2 ounce Averna (also recommended: Amaro Lucano, Luxardo Amaro Abano)
  • 3⁄4 ounce bourbon
  • 1 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1⁄4 ounce simple syrup
  • 1 egg white
  • lemon zest or cocktail cherry garnish

I am but a simple man that likes my whisky neat or with a splash of water. All that mixing is too damn much work. Lol

I prefer that too, I just have to drive through a few bottles (like this EC 133), by mixing. I’ll always enjoy a Manhattan but other than that a nice bourbon or single malt neat is preferred.

Picked this up special order at Binny’s last Saturday. It’s lovely. Consoling myself after stupidly hurting my bad shoulder at the gym. 🙁

It’s a sherry bomb but lots of flavor( smoke, spice, wood, tobacco, orange peel) ...And great finish. Tempted to order another bottle before it vanishes.
