Yes and no... but generally yes Diago, Pernod, Suntory, Bacardi.

Unfortunately most of the Scotch distilleries are owned by the big guys. 馃檨

If you dig scotch you might have a go at Armagnac, also single distilled spirit so you get a lot of the oily richness and it鈥檚 a bargain. Started exploring last year and have really been enjoying it. Pairs well with vintage watches
Little wine shop in the Paris 7th turned me on to vintage Armagnac. They have shelves upon shelves of wonderfully dusty bottles. I have four really old bottles that, since I鈥檝e not been back since 2016, I鈥檓 nursing. Fortunately my local Binny鈥檚 maintains a nice supply of old blends. I鈥檝e learned not to bring these to sailing parties because it vanishes instantly. It鈥檚 rich and grapy and a bit sharper than congnac but I agree it was a revelation. I jumped into the deep end of the pool with the vintage stuff but a nice bottle can be found for under $50.

I suppose this is another thread I can dabble in. Maybe learn a thing or 2 about brown alcohol that isn't beer.
I like wine...reds only (sucker for decent bottle of Caymus). As for beer I'm a snob but not picky (will still gladly drink a PBR), however I do love a good IPA (Cigar City Jai Alai, for example, from a local brewery). Also a bit of a coffee snob.
I happen to have this at work today for a co-worker. Strawberry moonshine...

He brought in some blueberry he made himself so I decided to bring this in for him to sample...and at 11:20AM it is close to sampling time!
I did not make it, it was given to me.

Ok ... that tracks with what I know. The comment about all bourbon coming out of MGP got me blood pressure up.

Didn't say all, just said many 馃槈 - and I figured the Kirkland / Costco stuff (which is held in decent regard in many circles) came from there

For sure! the Tampa / St. Petersburg area has had a LOT of small craft breweries pup up over the last few years.
Some of the bigger ones are Green Bench, 3 Daughters, Coppertail, and of course Cigar City.
Those would be the ones I would think have a pretty wide distribution (I bought a 6 pack of Jai Alai in Manhattan once!).
But there are many, many more small local ones that distribute locally.

So, from the last several posts I take it the alcohol industry is like the watch industry....swatch group, richmomt, etc. Several diff labels under one company?

This is one of the really interesting things you discover when you start really looking into rum in particular. Some brands distill and age their own product, but an increasing amount of brands actually purchase the base rum (pure unaged distillate, essentially) from other distilleries and then blend and age it to make it their own. For example, ALL "Demerara" rums come from the same place -- the Demerara distillery. Yet there are many brands that make Demerara rum; Hamilton, Lemon Hart, El Dorado, etc. And they all end up tasting wildly different due to the different blends and aging methods. The same thing occurs with rums from Barbados, Jamaica, and others.

So it's a little bit different than "several different labels under one company"... it's more like several different labels taking the same product from one company and making unique products with it. At least in the rum world. I won't claim to know a thing about bourbon or scotch, except that I always keep a bottle of Buffalo Trace (or Eagle Rare) around.
