Wait, it is definitely Buff Trace? If so, you have solved a major mystery that has been a subject of discussion in my friend group for years!

They both probably come from MGP like many bourbons / ryes sold in the US

Look what you bashtadges made me go get. I can’t crack it open until later, but looking forward to it. On a side note, I’m unbelievably shallow and like the way the bottle is going to look in my cabinet lol.

re woodford, Buffalo trace, Kirkland, four roses, pappy.... and more....

They are all distilled at the same place to spec. Some are just distilled then transferred to the “distillery” for ageing. Generally the mash bill and ageing are done to spec. So your all kinda right and kinda wrong.

Drinking a very nice Blanco from the Vom Fass store in Lincoln Square. Not sold on the no Branding concept and prices are absurd but this is tasty. “Hands Off” is a message to the kid.

A bit of a sweet tooth tonight so I made a Rusty Nail. One part Drambuie, 3 parts scotch (Lagavulin 16 yr).

Did you just say you put something in the Lagavulin? Blasphemy

I’ll never do it again, had no idea it was an issue. Lol

Ok guys, cracked the Blantons open. It’s really fragrant, awesome. A little sip...smooth and nice, perfect finish makes you warm all over. I’m not a bourbon expert, but I’d give it a 10 compared to the other bottle I have. I won’t be putting vermouth and a cherry in this one.

Poured an Aberlour 16 tonight. From Islay to Speyside. And IMO beats the hell out of Macallan for the money...especially the 12 year vs the 12 year. $40 a bottle vs $60-70? No brainer.

Buffalo trace now owns the Pappy brand and makes it. Pappy was made at the now closed Stizle Weller distillery. I’ve got bottles of the last SW juice. Pappy has not been Pappy for years, but a high wheat made to spec.

4 roses makes bulliet.

Between those 2 distilleries they make a lot of so called micro distilleries. Some make their own but many do not.

Ok ... that tracks with what I know. The comment about all bourbon coming out of MGP got me blood pressure up.

Somewhere I have a list of who produces what. Probably needs updating though.

If you dig scotch you might have a go at Armagnac, also single distilled spirit so you get a lot of the oily richness and it’s a bargain. Started exploring last year and have really been enjoying it. Pairs well with vintage watches

I’ll try it. It’s weird as I’m not really a scotch drinker but go through it more than anything.

One of my faves, that producer and importer are awesome.

I went down the cognac and armengnac road a few years back.

I also love Calvados.

So, from the last several posts I take it the alcohol industry is like the watch industry....swatch group, richmomt, etc. Several diff labels under one company?
