Yes, but I just noticed the caseback engraving. That can be repaired obviously. Without that engraving, these jumbo 18k cal 89 pieces are hard to find for less than $2k these days, in good condition.

got my cal 89 (35mm) in 18kg last month from Closer in Japan ...wonderful condition. $1080 ...this is a good example

Really not sure why the engraving should be an issue and how it could affect price that much to be honest. Still has the dial case, movement and the gold in it.

Personal caseback engravings are like Marmite - some love them, others violently dislike them

Ha ha! Yes. Normally I dont like them but this one is acceptable as it is an affectionate nickname and adds character IMO. 😀

That's a great looking piece. Yes, the 35mm pieces are significantly less expensive. It's not unusual for 2mm to result in price doubling.

You may not like to hear this, but personal engravings almost always decrease the collectible value, although high quality interesting engravings associated with a presentation watch or a particular date may not have such a large effect. This engraving, however, is about as bad as it gets. Still, as I mentioned, it can be repaired.

I don't hate engravings, I often find they add character and interest to the watch. I just find this one awful on all levels but that's personal, if you like it go for it!

The Connies are nice but not that hard to find.

The OP explained the terms of the deal earlier in the thread, and I admit I started to get a bit of a sore brain. OK, that may say more about me, but it did sound complicated. Obvs we all make our own choices, and there's been a ton of good advice here, both ways. But... when the trade starts to get that complex, I start to ask why, and just who is benefitting. My 2c, sorry. But anyone who likes IWC as well as Omega at least has great taste, I have to say!

I have seen far worse engravings than this one. Like ones all over the caseback😁

Thanks. Yes I'm getting tired too. It's not that complicated really! It's a straight swoop of the Connie's for the IWC . Either way cant go wrong .

Will let you know what I did

Got more information from the IWC collectors forum which is interesting.

"the engraving is not too serious an issue here.
Whilst it does distract from the value it's negligible and adds a story to the
watch. The movement as far as I can see is in relatively good condition following a
restoration - there was previous water/moisture damage that has been cleaned
up quiet well. dial and hands are original".

Anyway a moot point as I have firmly decided to keep and enjoy wearing by Connies!

I am leaning towards the stainless steel cal. 751.

regards

Agree with you on this.
IWC's dial is original and the 89 movement is extraordinary, a nice addition to every collection.

Ist this an inside South Africa trade? As I understand it, deals outside your country can be complicated via PayPal and your vicious Customs, correct?
