Would you sell 2 connies to acquire an IWC cal.89? - My dilemma

Good day all!

I was considering trading 2 connies (yes 2!) for an IWC cal. 89, let me enlighten you further!
I do not have the money to buy the IWC outright so I would have to release the connies as a clean trade.

The Constellations are :
168.016 cal.751 from 1969
168.018 cal.564 from 1968
For now I will just show wrist shots but if more photos are required I can provide.

When I saw the IWC it really spoke to me as beautiful in its simplicity, timelessness, class and quality.
Although I am new to vintage IWC I have researched this one and believe the dial to be original.

IWC is cal. 89 in 18K from 1949

Originally I thought the trade would be okay because I would be getting into 18K and it is the perfect dress watch, keeper and family heirloom.
But I am wondering whether it would be wise to replace it with the connies?

I do not consider myself a collector rather a vintage watch enthusiast and would like 1 heirloom piece and would like to wear and enjoy!! Although I need to be a little investment wise too about this potential trade!

For now I will just show wrist shots but if more photos are required I can provide.

Any advice/opinions would be appreciated!
N.B. if I did go ahead I would still have a beautiful Seamaster cal.552 in my collection so I wouldn't be selling myself totally out of Omega (cardinal sin?!)

I don't like the IWC dial. The Schaffhausen Print is too thick for that time period. Go to the IWC collector's Fora and ask again..... Kind regards. Achim

Thanks for your valued inputs, it is much appreciated!
I don't know what I was thinking ??::facepalm1:: Perhaps it was the allure of a 18K dress watch! I should wait until I can afford it and get an 18K vintage Omega.

I will enjoy my 2 connies and feel privileged to have them on my wrist! Although they may be not the most desirable connies they are still connies with original clean dials which is getting harder to find.

Calling on the connie experts/enthusiasts:

Do you think that these later 60s connies will be appreciated more in future? They do have the amazing 564 and 751 movements under the hood after all?

Regards
Neal

Are the constellations not also redialed?
I do not believe so.
Here is a better picture of the 168.016

I prefer wearing my Connie ( gold plate C case / linen dial ) but no doubt enjoy my IWC 18k Cal. 89 from the mid-fifties. They both fit great with a suit and ooze simple sophistication. Both movements are rock solid. If possible, I’d keep the Constellation and eventually buy the IWC ...which is what I did.

A fellow member sent me a very useful reference for checking out vintage IWC dials.

The IWC I posted here fits into the era "1947 to at least 1953 mostly fancy jumbo golden cases like Bombay etc"

by the movement number and case numbers.

I studied the logo script (including the Schaffhausen) and the OP dial logo script matches very well with the first (top) reference from the era fit. The matching ref script is also "thick". There was a lot of script variation (including thickness) for the different eras.

But I am completely new to vintage IWC so the "match" may turn out to actually not correct. Redials are very subtle

Maybe I could sell one of the constellations and pay in the difference for the IWC.
But which Constellation is better to keep? I am leaning towards the stainless steel cal. 751.

Also the dial has some aging around the minute track with oxidation on the edge between 1 and 2 which adds some credence to it being an unfinished dial IMHO

Just my .02:

Life is short, you have already experienced owning a Connie (or two), you have yet to experience owning an IWC cal. 89.

Go for it.

I did go to the IWC collector's forum before and they have just replied that the dial is good (no redial issues)😀

Like your thinking!
That's what I thought initially too!! Nothing lasts forever : neither us nor watches!!
Still have this 1961 Seamaster to enjoy!😀

Good to hear, that the printing is ok. I would have skipped it because of the thick Schaffhausen Font. Kind regards. Achim
