As some of you may recall, I have been on the hunt for an IWC R521 for a while. And then end of last year I had one in my sights, and missed out... and have been kicking myself ever since! Well this time I could not let it slip past. Just landed on my wrist, here is a quick wrist shot and some very quick macro shots. Even in the macro the dial looks amazing to my eye (most tiny marks are on the crystal and will see some polywatch ASAP) with oxidation to the hands. The case looks to have seen very little, if any, polishing, those dreamy lugs are sharp. Again, all to my eye and admittedly IWC is a little out of my expertise, so while I can still call in a technicality on the sale, would love to hear thoughts. Movement pics added ASAP.
I simply adore rose gold. Looks beautiful to me. Love the lugs and hands. Enjoy. Glad you got it this time!
Here is mine. From 1947. Not quite as good condition as yours but with a charm all it’s own. Enjoy yours. It’s a cracker.
I love the attention to detail with the micro minute markers that form a ring around the outer edge of the dial. Very charming - congratulations on finding your watch
Thanks everyone. From the responses and likes I’m feeling confident I picked a good one. (I was 99% before I purchased but always good to have that confirmed by those with more knowledge than myself.)
Absolutely gorgeous, well done. The rose gold case, dial and proportion are perfect. As previously stated very patekesque. All the best
I find the more common IWC cal. 89s to be a bit plain but the lugs, Arabic numerals and alpha style hands on this piece give it some character. Very classy and sharp looking watch!
Well, she’s an absolute beaut but seems like a trip to the spa is needed. Assumed so, as previous owner couldn’t verify last service. Winding is stiff and only about 13 turns, so power reserve was about 17 hours. Hoping that’s only a service, maybe with mainspring replacement?
Does anyone know what buckle would be age appropriate for this? Late 50s/early 60s. Have seen this one below, but not sure if it’s more 70s, and if they were ever offered in rose gold plated.
Congrats! They are wonderful. I can’t decide if I like your dial or mine better, but I’m happy with either.
I think it’s a great pairing (it’s from glc straps), but it’s been somewhat controversial https://omegaforums.net/threads/just-because-playing-with-straps.71374/
