·Hi all,
I have managed to get my hands on a pretty nice '61 Wittnauer Electric. I have always fancied one of these as I like the relative size, and of course those gorgeous and funky hands are just amazing. I love the overall look and design of these watches. The one I went for also ticks my patina box, having a lovely and even light brown discolouration which steadily fades towards the centre of the dial. It does have a slight crack in the crystal right at the edge by the 9, so that is the first thing for me to rectify.
I had read that these are thirsty on power, and this is indeed the case. Modern batteries do not last long at all in it.
This leads me to my question and the reason for my post. I have read up on the various battery 'spacers' people have used in these to enable the use of a modern battery - this example has a simple and rather crude cardboard ring which seems to do the job just fine. However if i am regularly changing out the batteries then I think a more substantial spacer might be required. Has anybody produced such a thing out of plastic or are there any other owners offering such items to others?
