This does look great. I need the case restored on my fathers watch. Is there a 'go to' guy on the forum for this, or is it a common service?

I agree that the repair was superbly done. It was almost like watching a remake of the 6 million dollar man, but for a watch. (Hears the theme music now..) Now to wear that fine looking Omega!

Very impressive. And the amount you paid sounds like an amazingly good deal.

What a fantastic thread. Thanks for sharing, OP.

I’m curious, does the chap match steal grades when applying the finishing? I beg you to use your best Neanderthal language in answering as I’m an idiot when it comes to these things.

Also, what do members and serious collectors think about this process? Would it be sacrilege to apply this technique to, say, a pre-moon speedy or 60’s sub?

316L steel you mean? This watch is made of 316L and this grade is rather a popular 'resource'.

If you meant 904L for his Rolex jobs, I do not know but can ask him.

Wow, the spot/laser welding and re-shaping and finishing of those parts is incredible.

I have a bench top Foredom lathe and Foredom flexshaft set-up which is great for most resurfacing (along with various sanding sticks). Definitely not for the faint of heart however. If one was going to attempt this one would be wise to practice, practice, practice on watches that you really don't care about anymore cause speaking from experience you can mess things up fast if you don't know exactly what you're doing!

OP, thanks for sharing the story and pics. That was an excellent job and done at an excellent price.

I'm not going to feel too bad about bashing my watch (if) the next time it happens. Although I'm sure the AR types on the Rolex forum would still complain about the "polish", LOL.

Extremely impressive restoration, and how is the price paid not a typo?
