Why not a Seiko? your opinion on a SARB

I am going to agree with Kreindog24 on Option 2, with the caveat that they are both great looking. If my crystal ball was as clear as the crystals on some of my vintage Seikos, I might be more able to determine future classic status. Good luck on your choice, and please let us know how it all comes down.

I picked up this early 70's GS 5646-7010 for $850 in mint condition. Put it on a Hirsh lizard strap with a modern GS deployant. Absolutely love it, blown away by the quality. It gets a whole lot of wrist time.

Bringing this back form the dead.

An alternative to the SARB033/35 can be found with the sister brand, Orient.

The orient Standard Date WZ0021DV (11DV, 31DV,41DV)

How much is this Orient?

I got mine in pristine condition (Minus a scuff on one of the bracelet links) for 300 GBP almost (including shipping, customs etc from Japan).

There's one being currently advertised for about 500GBP new on Amazon.

Second hand in good condition if you can get them around 250-300GBP they're a lot of bang for the money. The way the hands and indices catch light is amazing, The finishing on the case is also very nice, the sides are polished with a brushed line going through the middle (sumo-esque).

My question is what is stopping you from buying it? If you like it buy it. That is what is most important. Seiko makes phenomenal watches with seemingly endless variety for almost every price range.

As for this specific model... it is a very nice looking watch that looks balanced and would be a great daily wearer with the ability to be dressed up or down as needed. I personally wouldn't buy it because it doesn't scratch my current watch it but overall it is a great looking piece. I too like the tail of the seconds hand.

Pretty nice I admit even though I prefer the seiko bezel that looks thinner.
@Jwit, everybody should have at least one Seiko 😀

You can't go wrong with Seiko, they cover so many bases/styles/movement types, etc it's hard to stay away. You could have an entire collection just around Seikos.

I set myself a limit of 4, and am still strayin sometimes, thinking of the Credor Chrono GCBP997.

Exquisite Lord Marvel, how old is it?

ive been looking at a seiko lord marvel hi beat as well. For me the issue with seiko is their over built cases and worse, the 4 oclock crown. To me it lacks refinement. Ive had the skx007 and skx013, and seiko5 military which have all been sold. Currently own a seiko sea urchin, skx023, and skx031. The other day I even found out they had a 38mm diver but it was limited to a certain market only. wear both of those seiko subs on president style bracelets and they are ideal beating watches for the hospital. no longer care much for the sea urchin.

I have an Alpinist (Sarb017) and a SKX009 both of which punch way above their weight class. My only issue I have with both is that the stock bracelets are not the best. However, I replaced the Alpinist dog leather imitation crocodile strap with a strapcode angus jubilee bracelet, and now it is one of my favorite pieces. I have a strapcode super oyster on my SKX009 and it is nice as well.

This my favorite SARB
S-SARB017_b_1024x1024.jpg
I've had two Alpinists: each time I lost faith with the overall diameter and feeling small on my 7.5" wrist. Any strap is better than the oe item, I tried the bracelet but still the diameter got to me.
