Love Seiko !
I am currently looking for a nice King Seiko or Lord Marvel, to stay in the vintage trend !

Also for the lovers of japanese watches, you have the Orient brand (brand owned by Seiko) :

My first automatic watch 😉

I’ve registered some time ago, but it seems to be a first post, hence my ‘Hi All’.

While I am still relatively fresh in Omega, I do have years of background in Seiko. Owned various watches from them, $100 - &1k range and imo there is nothing wrong in Seiko, I ended up with the pair of these: white GS hi-beat and black Presage SARX.

6r15 is their basic hacking movement. It has been developed more than 10 year ago. Initially popped-up with revision ‘6r15a’ and a modern revision is called ‘d’. You can sometimes find the watch with rev. ‘b’ but most of the currently offered watches is powered with ‘c’ (personally I found this revision as much more accurate than rev. ‘b’).
When compared to standard grade ETA;
Pros: 50 hours power reserve, Cons: 21k beat, and less accuracy.
SARB033 is really worth the money. Do not expect perfection as the hands not always have great finish, but still great entry level piece from this brand. It is also one of the watches called “forum lovers” so if for any reason you won’t like it - it should be an easy flip.

SARX033/35 and SDGM001/003 have been mentioned and personally I found them as the best models in non-Grand Seiko line.
Perfect bridge between Seiko and Grand Seiko.
Still powered by 6r15c, but they come with really nice finish - Super-Clear-Coating for the crystal and Diashield for a case and bracelet.
SCC’ great Pro is how clear this crystal is, bit Cons is that the outer AR layer is quite soft.
Diashield coating Pro is increased hardness (350-650 HV) and extra bling effect. the watch finishing looks like much more expensive piece.
Cons - it is not quite clear can this coating be refinished, refreshed anyhow. I’ve heard only Seiko Japan can do it, not confirmed though.

@Kwijibo, if I can advise, skip SARB033 and definitely have a look directly on SARX/SDGM models. Here is a quick shot when I've had them both.

The Sarb033 is a fantastic watch that offers quality far greater than its price point would suggest! You should definetely get one!
And I do agree with other that vintage Seiko is unbeatable (I have a Pogue that makes me smile every time I see it 😀

A 22 year old student of mine was wearing a Seiko 5 SNKE83J1 on a leather strap. Absolutely stunning. The 5 was my first automatic watch 25 years ago. I pine for a GS!

I wanted to buy the Sarb065 cocktail time last year but ended up with the Nomos Tangomat. Wish I could afford a Grand Seiko. Those are subtle yet beautiful.

And as in-house as in-house gets.

If you have never owned a Seiko, and are coming from the world of Swiss watches, you will not believe your mind on what you get for what you pay. Your mind simply won't be able to grasp it.

I love Seiko. (Not my pic - I wish)

I had previously owned a SARB065 (Cocktail time). Loved the watch. Decided to sell in the end to pick up a vintage dress piece. Still miss it.

Myron (see above post) has 3 of the most iconic Seiko watches in existence. If you know him, you will agree that he has great taste, and an even better attitude toward watch collecting.

Hey thanks! Lately I've been thinking about picking up a new Seiko, and I've been trying to figure out which one -- the good choices are bewildering. I believe I have it narrowed down to two, both of which I think will be future classics but I think I would also enjoy equally today. I would appreciate comments and suggestions from those who know these watches better than I do.

Thanks,

Myron

Option 1: The SARW025.

And Option 2, the SARX035:

Option 1 all the way. It's so unique. Option 2 is nice, but it seems to be lacking something.

I like Option 2 myself. Then again I've been in a very brown mood this fall and winter. Would look great with a tweed jacket!! Go with your gut - you've got to be happy wearing it. You really won't go wrong with either.

Get that navigatortimer now. I got mine last year. Stunning watch, getting hard to find good ones at decent prices but they are out there.

Seiko, especially vintage Seiko does represent great value. I don't own one yet but I will get around to it I hope.
