Why is there a waiting list for the Speedmaster Hesalite?

The new Speedy Pros are coming out soon with the 3861 movement (and a new bracelet). Omega has likely already stopped producing the current model.

Oh no, they’ve started playing the Rolex game. What are we going to buy now!!
Seiko! Or maybe a Doxa sub. Zenith? Haha

Loads of people buying pre-price increase as well as the possibility it might be phased out for the new movement.
Maybe! I myself bought mine pre-price increase. I'm excited for Sep 1st to see if the price increase actually happens, and to see the new Rolex models.

Well this all rumor right now until Omega makes an announcement. All signs point to this happening though.

I just purchased a sapphire sandwich moonwatch back on 7/19 at the Houston OB. My particular watch had to be ordered in as they didn’t have it in stock before I had a scheduled appointment.

The OB store manager told me that they got feedback that there were around ~60 moonwatch timepieces remaining in North America in advance of the anticipated evolution of the watch to use an internal movement.

It could have been a sales tactic but I don’t get the impression it was. I know a lot of people have heard different commentary on this change and how it’s impacting current stock, but I don’t feel like they would have lied to my face directly just to make the sale.

So, IF Omega has really stopped production of the 1861 and the 3861 becomes the new kid on the block, the question becomes how the value of the 1861 model will be affected. Up? Down? No change? I have a hard time believing that the 1861 could become as iconic as the 321, or even the 861, anytime soon. On the other hand, if it’s phased out it is arguably the last real descendant of the classic Moonwatch.

Since I have no intention of flipping mine, sentimental value is all that counts. And that goes up every year 😉

I’ve no intention of flipping mine either. Just curious what others think.

I don't see them ever limiting that watch. It's their bread and butter.
Any evidence to back that up? Sales figures compared to the Seamasters maybe?

Good question, only time will tell!

i wanted the current version and bought one just in case the new one is modified in a way that I may not like, like with a ceramic bezel or so.

+1 on this, whereabouts in the world is the OP based? It could be a local issue.
I’m in Texas in the USA

But even on the Omega USA website the watch isn’t currently available

Wow, thats interesting, we know (guess) that the 3861 is going to take over from the 1861 but I would have expected some kind of announcement from Omega before they stopped production.

But, the FOIS Speedmaster became unavailable in the UK for a while, assumptions were made that it had been discontinued but it is now back in stock. So the Moonwatch maybe going through a similar process.

One thing is certain. If the 1861 remains in production, prices are going up. If the 3861 replaces it, prices are going up. Did I mention that prices are going up? 🙁

Won't let me add it to the UK basket/checkout as of 8:40pm August 30th - it just says contact a boutique about this piece (both the hesalite and sapphire).

In terms of will the old ones go up/down, I'd say from everything I've ever bought or collected that it will go up in price.

The Omega forums will be flooded with people saying they've ruined the Speedmaster and now that it has hacking seconds and (I believe?) Co-axial, that it's no longer a real traditional Speedmaster. Even worse if they release one model only and give it a sapphire front or display back.

You'll have 321 as the vintage original and then 861/1861 as the cheaper tweaked version of the original which is what most people will be advised to buy if they want the last true closest thing to a Moonwatch and that's where the Speedmaster lineage will die.

Anything else like 3861 or whatever they're putting into the X-Side of the moon editions and moonphases are just a modern imitation and unnecessary improvement probably in most people's eyes.

Just added one to my basket without an issue, and the website was happy to accept my payment details, the only issue was that I had to live in the UK (which I do) as an order from outside the UK wouldn't be accepted.
