Why is there a waiting list for the Speedmaster Hesalite?

Jomashop, a major grey market seller in New York, has decreased its shipping time for the 1861 hesalite Speedy on the bracelet from 8-10 weeks to 5-7 days, so that tells me that there’s still excess inventory out there. $4,495, no manufacturer’s warranty. Chitown Watch in Chicago currently shows it in stock WITH the manufacturer’s warranty for $4,500. If the greys have it, or can get it, then the ADs are likely still getting inventory from Omega.

Or the ADs are dumping inventory because they know something! 😉

Yep, certainly possible. Interesting that grey market prices for the 1861 are up $1k in the past year. 50th anniversary of the moon landing was a factor, but I think that speculation that the 1861 may soon be history is driving it now.

I agree with you.

I checked a popular grey before buying mine, and when the AD offered me a discount before I asked, that was close to grey price, I just bought it.

too bad the September 1st price increase seems to have been a lie in America lol

Why is that bad? Before you know it, you might be in the market for another one...

It's a bit like with stocks: you want the market to go up when you are done investing, and nearing retirement. Before that, dips in price are buying opportunities ! If you are building an Omega collection, you want prices to be low for as long as possible.

It wasn't a lie, it was a conclusion OF members reached because the UK had telegraphed a price increase, but no US official Omega source ever hinted at an imminent price increase. Before you knew it it was a 'fact' that an increase was coming on Sept 1 to the US.

if you compare same watch selling on US vs other sites , there is a difference in pricing (after currency conversion)

You’re right, not bad at all.

it’s just that I had been wanting the Speedy for over a year, and when I saw the rumors of a 9/1 price hike, I freaked out and ran to my AD to buy it before 9/1.

I then checked for the price hike to see how much money I saved, and there was none haha

However, I am 100% happy that the watch is finally in my possession.

Yes I noticed that there is a price difference between Canada and America.

I just got an email from Omega. Hesalite Speedmasters are back in stock and available on the US website. No price change.

Yes, there is. But there have now been at least two (May and September 2020) price increases in non-US countries, including Canada and the UK, that are not solely related to currency changes/disparities. Other pricing and market-segment strategies are at work.

I got an email from jomashop asking to buy mine back. They weren't offering near enough but I guess it's their right to try

Gosh! Is that a thing? Or is that another hint at it possibly being discontinued?

My guess is things got kinda slow on the supply side during Covid but people were still buying watches. Supply will catch back up eventually

They're discounted again on the AAFES website ($4095) if you've got military connections.

There are still deals to be had. I picked mine up about 6 weeks ago for $3500 new, grey Market, but seemingly with a valid, activated warranty.

As much as all the price increases kind of suck with how frequently they're coming, the Speedmaster is still fantastic value for everything it offers including all the history etc. You can spend far more and get far less with watches in this price range or higher.

I agree. Even some of the limited/numbered editions seem like values compared to the competition.
