Why Invicta sucks?

Someone wanna tell me how this looks bad? $5 at a yard sale. Runs perfect. Even screw on back. I've put this watch through hell and back and it still works. I wear it for all my dirty jobs....yardwork, etc. Rinse off the dirt when I'm done. For all the marketing BS (which I don't like either), its a solid watch.

For that price, it is an amazing deal! 👍

They have a following for sure.

My young nephew spied a Constellation on my wrist one day. He says "That looks like a nice watch." "Yes it is" I say. "Its a nice old Omega" "Say, I bought this Invicta" he flashes this thing at me on his wrist, looks like a gold plated harbor mine. "Pretty nice, huh?"

I'm a network field engineer. What this means is I go to a client site and check the Layer 1 stuff and then often will hook up a laptop to the suspect device and work with a remote engineer to see if we can fix it. These remote guys are generally a) male and b) far younger than me.
Yesterday at the end of an assignment that went on far too long, I made some comment about how much I like the work, how projects like the one we just completed are like the gift that keeps on giving, he made some comment about wishing he made my money, I laughed saying I needed the money because I have this expensive hobby.

"Oh, yeah? What's that?"

"Vintage watches"

"Oh! I collect watches too! I got a bunch of Invictas!"

I personally think Invicta sucks because their designs are either a.) pirated from other, higher quality brands' successful designs, or b.) Gaudy, loud, and classless. They are also cheaply made. For the price, one would do better with a Timex, a Casio or, for just slightly more, a Seiko.

Invicta is basically the White Castle of watches. Good only when you're drunk. Sometimes not even then.

"Invincible in detail" my arse. 🤮

After having my curiosity peaked by a couple of these attractive Invictas that were shared I looked on Ebay for a decent one but most were around the same price as a Seiko or hideous, so then I gave up. I think I'm going to add a Zenith to the collection next.

Personally, I've always been pretty happy with my Citizen Eco Drive and Stewart Dawson... However, I wanted a cheap beater mechanical watch that wouldn't make me feel emotional if it broke. I literally just walked around my local mall for a few hours (it has a half-dozen stores that sell watches), and I actually settled on a *gasp* Invicta that isn't the size of a literal submarine. Naturally, it was during an 80% off "clearance sale" *eye roll* but, it doesn't look hideous, cost me less than $150, and I've received more compliments on this watch in 72 hours than I have on my Stewart Dawson in, well, ever...

...which makes me want to go back to the Invicta store, purchase one of the submarine-sized watches, and carry it with me as a bludgeoning tool for the next person to do that. (Hey, whoever said Invicta doesn't make tool watches? 😉 )

Bravo sir, "Gold plated harbour mine" made me fire tea out of my nose.
Pretty much sums up all of the ones I've seen in the UK worn by the Discount Bling Brigade.

It’s arguably easier for the bling crowd to harness one of those “watches” to their arms- get the attention they desire from other squads- than to have to explain themselves as to why they’re wearing an “antiquated” (they wouldn’t know that word and just say “old persons”) tiny watch from the past. Obviously, costs comes into the equation- but I don’t even see them buying a vintage watch for $300-700 and throwing a NATO on it. Even that would be better IMHO.

The quality feel of an Invicta is non-existent. It sounds cheap, it feels cheap, and it looks cheap. Because, well, it is cheap.. to make. Definitely over-priced. A poor quality watch at a price which doesn't reflect the quality you're getting.

Not all Invicta’s suck!

1931 Invicta low chassis S type currently for sale in London. If you’ve got around £1million spare!

What about the movements regarding Invicta watches? Are they fairly good (or bad) movements?

Also, there is a section in the Complete Price Guide To Watches devoted to (from what I remember) vintage Invicta...but I believe it may be a 'different' Invicta than what is referenced in this thread. I'm at work right now and don't have the CPGTW with me (it's sort of like hauling around a brick).

I have bought two Pro Divers. One to see if I liked the size and helped me add a Submariner to my wish list. Another to my teenaged son. They both keep excellent time (+/- 1 sec a day) and have been bullet-proof. I got both on sale for $45 each.

they just opened up a boutique in Houston, the moment I stepped in I was given a buy 5 get 3 for free deal, and then I left.

If you’re considering invicta as a beater, it might be a good choice. I found an invicta I bought in high school for $85 (it was $435 originally so my high school self thought I was getting a steal). My cousin asked me about how tough watches were and I figured there is only one way to find out. I basically just grabbed the watch and smashed it on the corner of my bathroom countertop about 15 times and it never broke. Still works today!!

We might not have the Moonwatch today if NASA had included your testing sequence within its qualification regime.

Instead, we would resort to wearing Invictas and parsing the trivialities of model variants.

Invicta humidity tests, accomplished prior to application of gold finish in the plating department.

Just got back from a cruise. Almost every night was a ‘watch sale’ in the main area. Invicta’s by the boatload pun intended. The only nice thing about them was the Pelican-eske case they came in. Not that cheap either. Better deal on those Invicta ad channels

Ohhh they have some cable channel like a qvc and they are always talking about special editions that are only on cruise ships, but if you buy now you can get it with out being on the cruise lol.

I had a titanium invicta, other then my grandpop’s Hamilton and lord Elgin, it was my first automatic. I wore it for a year and then put it away for several years. I pulled it out to take pictures to try and sell it and one of the lugs fell off!

I saw all those awful Star Wars and Marvel watches. Up to X% off. Sure. The best was the Vader but still tacky
