I don't think they suck, they're excellent value for money.

One I like.

There's a community of people out there who mod them for fun - some of them come with the NH35 movement at a reasonably low price (usual amazon "80% off" sort of thing) and loads of different dials and hands to play with. I may have even had a go myself...

I tried to get an Invicta to suck, but it barely picked up two pieces of cat hair, so I switched back to the Numatic.

As suggested above, there were some nice vintage models made, so, as is the case with a number of other manufacturers (e.g. Movado), it is important to distinguish the current company from the very different one that existed in the past.

Do you keep the Invicta & Numatic in the same closet, or do they each have their own?

The Invicta was so big that we had to put it out front of the house, and feed the hose through the window. No one has stolen it yet, although we did lose a package of cat food last week.

The Numatic is sat in the corner...

Seiko fans would be horrified to be compared in any way to an Invicta. They are 2 entirely different categories of watch.
At some level one has to stop being a fanboy and be objective. A $100 watch is a $100 watch. I would have low expectations at that level regardless of the brand.

However, all things being equal, the reputation of Seiko for making fine timepieces (at a much higher price point) makes a big difference to me.

I own 3 Seikos and 0 Invictas.

Put some wheels on the Invicta, to confuse your local car thieves.

If you want to try one in on real life - go to any Pawn Shop. Loads of Invictas from people that got into the wonderful world of Invicta collecting before the significant other got pissed rent money was going for Flame Fusion crystals

I used to have Invicta as my vacation watch for Mexico, Dominican republic etc. It was powered by Ronda movement. I bought it dirt cheap and eneded up giving it away ( God forgive me). Some people are buying it because they can't afford something different and like swiss made sign on the dial)))
P.S. Look at my wrist....It was long time ago.http://cloud.tapatalk.com/s/59034c840c321/IMG_1769.JPG

Suck is such a relative term; but, yes many of their models do lack reliability, and their marketing/sales is distasteful. They are generally overly large, gaudy and poorly made. I have owned two, one the classic submariner homage. It was a decent knockabout Miyota watch until the stem tube cross threaded and became stripped after a year. I still own one of their $200 (discounted) class Swiss quartz watches. It has a decent Ronda movement and the case is simple enough it can't break easily. It is a little strange looking, but not overly large and I actually get complements on it, from ladies no less.

I wouldn't recommend buying one as a primary time keeper; and if you do buy one for fun expect it to break. Now as someone else said in a thread, it is a good source of Seiko NH35 movements. They are $80 all day long on Amazon, are good for practicing on, and a source for modification parts.

Would that they would make one like that now.

Yeah the Bronx.... perfect Invicta country!
If that was a convertible, I'd be all over it. Of course, I'm from Texas and we appreciate understatement.

I think the real issue is that many of the styles are very garish and their pricing strategy of putting a stupid high price as "MSRP" then offering 70% or more off as a bargain is insulting.

This is their (not so) secret. People think it is a steal every time they buy one because they "retail" for thousands and get sold for 70-90% off all the time. It's just that people don't realize they are being stolen from... I remember being gifted one as a kid and it stopped working shortly after. They are fashion watches being paraded as luxury.
