You should still take it to your watchmaker and have it checked for listening devices.

It is actually extremely cheap, 40 USD...

Wasnt it under Gorbachev (and Bush) when the Cold War ended?

Maybe this watch commemorated one of the treaties signed by Yeltsin and Bush.

Still 90s.

Russian watches are fun, and if you like this watch, buy it and have a ball with it. But why do you like it? The dial has two guys you've never heard of on it and the watch has absolutely nothing going for it. I've never spent more than $10 on a Russian watch and believe me, I got way more than my money's worth for each of them.

Just look at that precision minute track, while the seconds counter gives you increments of ten seconds each. The watch + shipping from Ukraine cost about ten bucks.

In all seriousness, for $40 you can find a Russian watch that you will enjoy much more than this one.

My guess is that this started out life as something else, a plain off-the-shelf watch, then someone on the Russian equivalent of Etsy washed the dial and printed the kitsch we now see on it.

THX, That's a good point. The marks and paints do seem come from different times of age.

with this level of original thought it's no wonder you're pulling in the big pesos!

Not so obvious if some of our fellow members thought it was under Yeltsin when the cold war ended.

It would not have been in my consciousness as well had i not seen last month in eastern europe how much of a big deal the 30th anniversary of the end of the cold war was.

And who says am pulling in the big pesos?

Theres only one Wikipedia entry on events in Russia 1992.
"January 2 - RTR channel began airing Santa Barbara, which would become the longest-running TV series on Russian television (although only episodes from 217th to 2,040th were aired)."

Maybe they were both big fans.

For 91 on the otherhand.
"Russia became a state separated from the Soviet Union following the dissolution by Boris Yeltsin, a former Communist Party member who wanted to make a democratic Russia by nationalism. It had created its own flag the same year."

I didn't get the joke bit. Maybe you could explain the punch line.

If you have anything against me, say it to me straight.

Dont ruin this otherwise interesting thread.

I honestly dont know what’s eating you or where you’re coming from (both figuratively speaking).

I guess politics can always be joked but sometimes it could be misinterpreted, especially via texts... Please be cool and I'm sure no one means no harm at all.

After all, I did not expect this old cheap piece could lead such an interesting topic.😀
