Which is the best +/- 1000 EUR chronograph? Tissot/Junghans/Hamilton/...

If we are just going by looks from that one angle, then I like both the Junghans and Hamilton, depending on whether you want something more elegant or more sporty. But there is much more to a watch than one photo, for example the movement, the thickness, the quality of the case finish, how the watch fits your wrist. etc. Also, I guess these are all automatic, but I tend to prefer manual winding chronographs, since they are often more streamlined.

Indeed, most modern auto chronos are 7750-based, this movement is quite thick. There is often a module add-on to change the subdial layout that adds one more layer, and a thick glass caseback. So some chronos may look good when seen from the front but ugly from the side, and most are at least 15-16cm high which may be too tall for a dress watch. So don't only look at a picture, have them in your hand before deciding.

Personally on pictures I like the Sinn 356: some of the height is from the crystal, it may be less blocky than others. But I never handled one in the flesh.

Well, I reread what I wrote and I should correct it to 14.5-16, probably. Still beefy, and the thickness is not always mentioned in spec sheets.

+1 on thickness. Display backs and 7750 makes for a very thick watch that bumps into everything. They are also really heavy. Consider a vintage watch with a 7730, 7733, 7734. Etc. they are super reliable and accurate and can be 10-13mm thick.

I love, love love love my Chronoscope but it’s not even water resistant so, it’s a sunny dry day watch. If the three you showed are your finalists, the Hamilton gets my vote. I would have a look at the Baltic. I own that as well.

For that price range you can also consider (if you like) like Frederique Constant. They mimic Patek/Breguet design language, but come with in-house manufacture movements. Some options would be...

I love the Junghans and thinking of one myself. It’s very different from most modern watches and should work well in any future collection. Good luck in your choice and congratulations on your graduation.

The Hamilton is a classic design, and the new one will have a more reliable movement than the original caliber 11.
