Much of Europe (the Alps/Budapest/Ljubljana etc) are beautiful as are many of the places mentioned throughout North America (Sedona/Grand Canyon/Nova Scotia/NorCal) but for my money New Zealand has it all.

For me, it seems, the most beautiful places are the ones I come across after extreme physical effort...example: Colorado inspires this in me...

After a full day of skiing, this spot on the mountain above Steamboat Springs was quite heavenly....

Then, in summertime, I bicycled up to this view of Independence Pass, near Aspen:

A sight to make @Mad Dog jealous.

There are many, many beautiful places in the world and I have been lucky to see more than my fair share. Still, I am most fond of being my own backyard...

I have yet to find another place that surpasses the Galapagos Islands for opportunities to witness nature in its rawest, most primitive form. In fact, I've been somewhat ruined as a diver since my visit to the Galapagos, as diving without dozens of sharks, and fish the size of a school bus now seems so mundane.

This thread has revealed some stunning images from our patrons at the OF. I'm just stunned at the quality and the subject matter, literally out of National Geographic.

Hey @Jones in LA great to meet a fellow Galapagos lover! As we went with young children (7, 9 yrs old) we did not do the exciting stuff you posted on your pictures. Stayed in the lovely Finch Bay Hotel and ventured out for daily tours. Incredibly tame wildlife there. Our kids loved the El rancho farm where you can see the wild giant tortoises and also explore some lava tunnels😀

To reach the Finch Bay Hotel you have take a very short boat trip. One day there was a mother seal feeding her pup on the jetty, completely relaxed amongst locals and tourists waiting to board.

Who can spot the marine iguana in the GoPro pic below?

On marine iguanas: the first episode of the BBC's new Planet Earth II series has an absolutely jaw-dropping sequence footage of marine iguana hatchlings being chased by snakes. It is still on the iplayer for another few days.

Hope to visit the Galapagos islands one day but in the meantime:

- Lucky Bay, near Esperance, Western Australia, which blew my mind rather easily a few years ago.. And then,

- Victoria Falls, Zambia, and

- the English Countryside,

..all lovely in their different ways. Thanks for this enjoyable thread..
