Difficult question! I'd say the most memorable/beautiful places are ones that I sort of just stumbled upon while traveling. I guess that made them all the more attractive to me (no expectations).

The mountain village of Masca on Tenerife (one of the Canary Islands off the west coast of Africa) has to be one of my favorite chance discoveries:

Also, Jungmun Saekdal beach on South Korea's Jeju island was particularly fetching:

The third one is the exception to the rule (in that I actually purposely travelled there). Monument Valley is one of the prettiest things I've ever seen:

I have been very fortunate to have travelled to wonderful locations around the world (my sunset thread post has a few examples)...I just can't pin it down to one location...there are many forms of beauty😀

Landscape beauty: Iceland / El Calafate Glacier in Patagonia
Beach: Fernando De Noranha/ Brazil - little known to foreign tourists...archipelago 300km off the Brazilian coast.
Wildlife: Galapagos / Lion Sands Safari Lodge (Kruger) looking over the Sabi River
Heritage site: Machu Pichhu (highly recommend an overnight stay at the Sanctuary Lodge so you can get in before the crowds and stay till late).
City classical architecture: Venice, love this place, have been there several times (tip - try to avoid going there in the summer)..Prague and Siena runners up as charming/little jewels.
City with natural beauty/surroundings: Rio de Janeiro (yes, even with the violence and shanty towns)
City with modern architecture and views: Sydney. Circular Quay with the trio of the Harbour Bridge, Opera House and Royal Botanical Gardens is hard to equal.

Cheers

I have been fortunate enough to live and work in a few countries and travelled all over the world. I don't know if anyone would call it beautiful because of its physical attributes but it is beautiful to me because it is where I grew up.
I dreamed of getting out of their asap. Which is what I did as I left for University. After many years of living abroad, I now appreciate my home town for its familiarity, seeing the same faces standing in the same corner, walking past my old school and remembering sitting there looking out the window for hours, the hours spent kicking a ball about in the park. I doubt I will ever live there again but I definitely appreciate it more than I ever did while growing up there.

The pictures are of two local beaches. Gavin and Stacey fans might recognise them

I had the most terrifying flight into Tenerife in '98. There was a dust storm off the Sahara desert that delayed our landing by an hour. Gorgeous islands, visited Fuertaventura, Tenerife and Gomera. A memorable trip.

Anywhere in the Stockholm, Åland or Swedish west coast archipelagos (preferably in a vintage boat with my wife) - or anywhere in rural Sweden - if talking about my preferences close by.

Internationally - I am a sucker for northern Italy. No pics needed.

Too many choices, and some fine ones already posted. I have a weakness for relatively spare beauty, so am often drawn to mountains. Here are a few images from a tramp (Kiwi for "hike" or "trek") that I took with a friend, and excellent guide, a couple of years ago. The area is called Arthur's Pass.

Not only was the scenery breathtaking, but the water, drunk straight from the many streams, was the best I've ever tasted.

Not my notion of the prettiest spot, but it makes for an absorbing combination of prehistoric vistas and a page right out of a Dr. Seuss book.

Joshua Tree National Park.

Walking down Samaria Gorge in Crete is probably my best memory. No pictures, but it was fantastic. 😀

I'm pretty fond of the English countryside near where I live.

The mysterious round barrow (prehistoric burial mound) in the trees.
