Where are all the Alaska Projects...?...

It appears you are looking at a different chart on mobile than I see in a real browser. This is what I see, blue are all unsold and red are sold,

https://omegaforums.net/threads/bni...er-alaska-project-311-32-42-30-04-001.110304/ the highlighed sale

Now I know all this is is a web scraper for a bunch of different forum sites so we won't ever know what the true sale price was up or down (other than ebay) and I don't really think I trust the myriad of 9K AP's that sold from Rakuten listed (that's a different tab that shows all the sites they scrape ) or the "paperclip boy" either but I have been watching AP's just sit for 20+K on C24. Certainly I find more value in the Speedmaster collection and AP vs a simple daytona or sub (not a rolex fan at all - overrated) and I could justify a certain pricepoint for a limited speedy.

I only asked if people knew of any reasonably priced units and that was all, because what I was finding was 20+K AP's sitting collecting dust on c24 so branched out and found watchcharts while looking for other white dialed speedmasters. From the consensus here 20+K is reasonable so that only means this isn't the watch for me, no problem. Should've grabbed one when they were trading for 6-8K a few years back.

It's a great timepiece and was looking for a white dialed speedmaster to tie out the collection and this one talks to me, just not for 20+K. Omega makes quite a few other speedmasters that are white faced (non-tokyo's) which are non-limited so I will just have to look at those instead.

I wasn't trying to argue with anyone about it, just presenting data I found, and am certainly not trying to devalue anyones intrinsic value of their AP.

the highlighed sale

like I said, that entire site is confusing - you’re sort of pointing out why.

that said, the highlighted sale is a 2 years old Omegaforums sale. I think someone got a good deal 2 years ago (happens on OF), and price-wise 2 years is a lifetime ago

@night0wl your chart fits my payd price (12-2020 it was 11k and asked was 12.500k on chrono (but i bought directly from seller then)).

and i understand totally that you say this isn‘t your watch then! i would love to have the white snoopy but the train is long gone for that pricewise (for me). same i see now with the ST. great watches, but not reasonsble for me so i don‘t really get the feeling of wanting them!

There is always the possibility of a trade for a Tintin or a ST… 😗

And to be clear about chrono24. I just searched. The search says 9 APs on the site. The reality is: A. 4 of 9 are not APs. B. 1 is in Japan and shows no price. C. 1 in Hong Kong at 24,158 usd. Shows wear and I see no cards or other papers. Not sure all other items are present. Did I mention its in HK? D. 1 in Germany. Not in orig box with no access and no papers or cards 18,180 usd. E. Spain. 20,500 appears to have extras and box but no cards. Again, in Spain. F. Italy. 65000usd. Has no cards/papers.

So there are a few for sale. The locations are not the best. None are complete set...cond. varies. We can toss out 65k. I'd say 25k is now the starting point for very nice complete sets with cards. 20k could happen with the right seller who may not be watching the market.

And for perspective. I've been looking at 116520 Cosmographs with black dials. There are 150 of that exact variant...avg price remains at about 30k. I'd say 2 or 3 available APs in various conds is a pretty low turnout. And I don't know about you guys, but I won't buy outside the US on items at this level. So if I'm looking at Chrono24, they have ZERO that meet my basic criteria. Sometimes you have to dig a little below the surface to get the real story.

True words!

I am located in EU and it was nearly the same situation. Some of them were far away and not reliable in my eyes. Some were incomplete. Some in bad condition. Some not original. One was left to match my criteria and i had to pay the price (which was averadge) or let it go… I decided to buy and didnt regret that. I am sure they will not get any cheaper again…

I have the same sentiment--was looking for something in the US. Found it from a reputable dealer in Canada. I don't think I could stomach going through C24 on this one.

FOMO is a terrible thing. This is a similar situation to the Tin Tin. If you didn't buy it when it was £2.5K 5 years ago and Omega couldn't give them away, why would you pay £10-20K now...

While I agree with you on the Tintin, imho the Alaska is different. I recall a couple years ago looking at several full sets for 10 to 12k, trying to decide how much I liked it, or not. There seemed to be no rush. When I finally decided I liked it and went looking again, the world had changed, seemingly overnight.

The Alaska is pretty alluring. It's far and above the new Snoopy, which is pulling in more money. I place the Alaska in the same category as the Apollo-Soyuz 35th as for uniqueness and design. There are a lot of overpriced watches, but again, imho, the Alaska is not overpriced at 20k.

Edit: even Tintin owners are saying they can't believe the current market. But you don't hear Alaska owners saying that...

Time to look where people / hype are not concentrated. It especially sucks for these who were lusting after an AP and hadn’t pulled the trigger (see @pdxleaf post above), but there are plenty of other fish out there…

It is also ok to appreciate some models from a distance sometime.

Hype away but the fact remains, these sat unloved for years and years. One sat unbought and unloved in a London AD safe until about 5 years ago. Kid yourself all you like that it was a must have watch but if you didn't think so 5 years ago what has changed? You or the world?

Dont get me wrong, I don't begrudge those of you who have one and are now sitting on a wind fall, but don't try to blow smoke up my ass...

Seriously, I'm not that into your ass.

Not everything is love at first sight. I have been known to obsess and pull the trigger too fast. But there are rare occasions where I try to be grown up and think about a purchase. The Alaska was one of those times.

But, as has been wisely pointed out, there are plenty of other fish in the sea

Sounds like what happened with the Paul Newman Daytona style Rolex’s. There was a time you couldn’t give them away…

I am agree it hasn‘t to love at first sight, for me it was when the watch cost 6k but i thought i am not stupid to buy a white for double the price I can have the moonwatch pro… then i wayted till it cost almost diuble the price and pulled the trigger! for me the design is great because i love white dials!

but i agree also on @padders that - correct me i i‘m wrong - the hype is a bit made from knowing to have what others want to have! i don‘t like having and keeping warches just to keep them off the market and don‘t wesr it.

i hope everyone who has one gives it adequate wristtime, cause the watch deserves it… and with the watch all who would like to wear it and don‘t get one because others have it in the safe!

Perhaps it was a poor choice of words on my part lol.
