Watch #1 - watch only at $8800

Watch #2 - watch with box and papers at $12000

I am facing a purchase decision between this 2. If you get to choose and can afford either 1, which will you go for? Is mk 1 more valuable than mk3? Is the box n papers worth the extra?
Work done? As in case refinishing?

The second one has had a lot of work done on it, I certainly wouldn't be paying $12k for it and the box and papers are only giving the illusion of originality.

Dear Ash, care to elaborate on what kind of work is done and the way you put it, seems un-desirable? This seems contrary to views from people like @sensui who see the watch in a more positive manner except the service insert, probable crystal and doubt about the date wheel.

Thanks for sharing!

Take a look at the bracelet then take a look at the rest of the watch. The second link on each side is gouged out badly which happens to 93150 bracelets that have been worn very long and hard, that's someone who never took it off year after year. Then look at the head, bezel crystal and date wheel are definitely new but I don't believe the bezel and bracelet were that flogged out without the case also being similarly banged up, it just appears to either be a pile of parts thrown together for sale or a watch that's had a lot of work done to prepare it for sale.

The bracelet stretch is a bit of a concern, but not exactly uncommon for a watch this old that's regularly worn and wouldn't necessarily indicate abuse. I prefer a bit of stretch with the correct clasp code to indicate the bracelet is original anyway (you can check this or ask to see pics of it from seller). That date wheel like I said earlier could be correct pending on the serial number as late 70s early 80s was transitional for the almighty "silver" date wheel (it's really a subtle silver that comes across as a dirty white).

That said, I like watch #1 better because of the mk1....certainly worth more in my eyes. 12k seems high price wise even for a full set with possible service xtal and service insert on watch #2. It'd be nice if we had more info other than just 2 front shots of the watches to see more details on the case, caseback, bracelet etc to evaluate further.

Thanks @dsio and @sensui! Your opinions matters a lot to me in my decision making. I am leaning towards the mk1 now.

I am curious about the triangle maker though. Why isn't the lower edge of the triangle as sharp as other subs' I see online? Is this just a usual variant or a hint to some re-work?

If you're concerned about the dial being relumed (I can't tell with that picture but am leaning toward probably not.) you'd need closer pictures of the lume plots and dial to tell for sure. Since it's got a domed crystal it could be just the way the picture was taken to distort some details (pending on how even/polished the crystal is @ various angles).
