Hi all, Can you provide an opinion on this watch? Is the parts correct and a honest watch? Price is 8800 US$. Thanks.
Many more photos needed please for a proper analysis on authenticity. As far as a value, you really should come to that conclusion yourself since you will be the one spending your money. Newer bezel insert is apparent from your one photo provided.
+1. Bezel is definitely a newer replacement as you can see from the pip and the patina on the dial and hands.
Need a clearer picture. Lume plots on 11,12, and 1 look a little dirty. Are the 4 and 5 o’clock plots missing some lume? And double check if the lume color on the seconds hand match the other hands.
Indeed not much to say based on one picture other then that the 1680 is a cool watch. Indeed the luminous pearl in the bezel seems replaced but honestly these are possible to find. Good luck.
Looks like a mk3 dial...replacement insert.... Need better pictures of dial and hands to evaluate...price seems in line assuming the dial and hands are good...but that picture doesn't inspire confidence on some lume plots...case from what I can see on that looks strong enough.
Hi guys, I thank all your inputs. I learnt a lot. My friend's friend is flipping this. Do you all think this is a better watch?
I'm guessing the crystal is a replacement. Cyclops is not present. Or the owner could have had the cyclops removed.
Yeah. Quick glance it's a mk1 dial with a pretty good case. Insert looks correct minus maybe that pearl (looks a bit light...but could be original I guess). Looks like a t19/t39 crystal (or clone) by the way the makers are oval without cyclops. Lume looks much better on this one...but the previous picture is harder to see. Just my thoughts....
Agree that the second one appears to be the better watch, assuming price is not too much higher than previously stated. Lume looks more uniform and the bezel insert is more appropriate.
Thanks guys for your valuable opinions! As a noob, will you all be concerned with the 6 o clock lume, with a slight deterioration at the bottom left corner?
Not me....this is vintage...look hard enough you'll always find something. That little bit wouldn't bug me at all..in fact perfect looking vintage pieces make me all the more suspicious.
Dear sensui and others, I really appreciate your inputs to help me find the 1680 I wanted. There's a 3rd 1680 offered to me with box and papers at 11k usd. What do you all think of it? Is the insert n crystal replacement? Is the datewheel wrong? The dial's fine?
Looks like a mk3 dial......great conditioned case from the lugs and the way the crown guards look. Insert is service but can be rectified buying a mk3 insert afterwards. Hands and lume looks good minus some dirt/lint (hopefully.....check to make sure these marks on the picture like the 6 o clock hair and near center of dial aren't scratchs on dial). Late 70's early 80's is transitional for date wheels I think with the brushed silver (subtle) versus white....so check for the open 6 and 9 on the date wheel. Can't tell on the top hat from that angle if it's service or original....the original goes straight up @ 90 degrees and the later service ones has a small bevel on the edge.
@chows99 Just going on your one pic, the date wheel, insert and I would assume the crystal are service parts. Dial looks good and case is acceptable, maybe even "fine" if more detailed pics were available. Check the SN and Reference engravings btw the lugs. Confirm that the clasp code is correct.
Watch #1 - watch only at $8800 Watch #2 - watch with box and papers at $12000 I am facing a purchase decision between this 2. If you get to choose and can afford either 1, which will you go for? Is mk 1 more valuable than mk3? Is the box n papers worth the extra?
The second one has had a lot of work done on it, I certainly wouldn't be paying $12k for it and the box and papers are only giving the illusion of originality.
