What's with the whole "hand watch" thing online?

I'm confused, because if I wore it tight enough to not go past my wrist bone it would be way too tight. What's this thing all about and how did it get started?

Also, to be clear, I don't care what people online think, I'm just wondering why this became a trend.
Some people like to wear their watches tighter, some looser. There is no trend that I know of. It has always been that way.

Based on the fact that you started this thread, apparently you DO care what people online think. 😀

So I posted this picture to celebrate my 3 year anniversary of owning my 3861 Speedy.

Then people started saying I'm wearing my watch too high up my wrist.

Great watch. Silly thread.

I think showing interest and caring are easily confused, although very different.

I wear my watches practically resting against my hand because my wrist bone is undetectable on my 8.5 inch wrist. I find this very convenient, as I don't have to pull very much on my sleeve when I need to see the time. I've been called on it and although it draws my curiosity as to why some people are fixated on this, I could care less.

I also wear my POs and other divers with a suit and tie without a care in the world.

Only you can determine if your watch is too high/low, big/small, tight/loose, etc. Internet opinions are worth what you paid for them.

I gotta admit, this is something that I have never considered in my many years of watch-wearing. I put the watch on my wrist and it seems to end up where it fits best. I assume that has something to do with the shape of my wrist bone, but like I said, it’s not anything I ever needed to spend much time thinking about.

I like my watches to sit just above my wrist bone, where they don't restrict my wrist movement and also where they naturally sit when my wrist has warmed up/expanded slightly. If it's a bracelet without micro adjust, that means they have to be loose (causing some "hand watch") when I first put them on, otherwise they'll be constricting later. It's a game of compromise.

As long as you're not causing pain or restricting your wrist movement, I don't really think it matters. Aesthetically I think on/above wrist bone looks best though.

No idea what the "hand watch thing is". This forum is as close as I get to "social" media. Wear it wherever you like it.

Really? I applaud that. Omegaforums genuinely feels like of the of the last true internet forums. I do spend some time on Reddit but it is absolutely a social media site first (the key definitional difference being that you are primarily a product on Reddit, just like any "real" social media). That's it though, for me. Gone are the days of the decentralized, free of charge internet. It makes me sad, but it is what it is.

Honestly, the way that moderators here handle such disruptions is another huge plus.

Here's what I learned from the Davey thing--when the cat pictures start to show up, reflect, apologize, and do better. I have long since learned respect for our feline overlords.

Personally, I can't see how one could wear a watch on the hand instead of above the wrist bone and actually do anything. If i wear it there I can't even move my hand let alone type on a keyboard or use a mouse, or literally do anything. To each their own.

Roger Waters ( if you are familiar with Pink Floyd) probably wears his watches looser than anybody I've seen in my whole life, and it doesn't seem to impact his ability to play. I don't think he even tightens his watch when he's playing, one of the very first images when I Googled him just now is this:

(Taken from Wikipedia via google)

I remember seeing him an interview once and this thing was sliding several inches up and down his arm, just hanging there, the dial pointed whatever Direction while his arm was swinging.

I tend to agree though, that wearing my watch securely enough so that it doesn't flop around like this is my preference.

I think it all depends on the individual, we're all different shapes and sizes, what may be no problem and comfortable for me, may well be a figurative pain in the arse and very restrictive of movement for you. (if you find the wearing of a watch is giving you an actual pain in the arse I would imagine you need to ask your fisting friend to remove it from their wrist before continuing!)
Just wear your watch as best suits you any anyone else who may come into direct physical contact with it!

I also wear it pretty high up my wrist but that's just because my wrist bone is weird. I like it this way for two reasons:

1. I can wash my hands or dishes and not worry about my watch getting wet.
2. The crown doesn't dig into my hand when I bend my wrist.

I used to wear a Panerai Luminor 44mm regularly, and the crown guard on those is so massive I developed a small callus on the back of my hand from wrist bending. And that was with it past the wrist bone!
