What's up with these vintage prices?

Might just be the lighting/crystal distortion/my deteriorating vision but it seems as though there is some dirt/patina on the outer rim/edge of the dial.

Slight discoloration on top of the clear coat is vastly different in the value than bubbling underneath the paint.

Sorry, this will come off as a bit sexist, but the women collectors can just translate it into the appropriate perspective. I am working on a theory about watch collectors being "dial-men" or "case-men" ... in the same way that different men are drawn to different parts of the female anatomy.

For this Constellation, the first thing I noticed was the case, and @ulackfocus apparently focused in on the dial.

The first thing I noticed was the price, so you can add "price-men" as a third category 😁

I suppose that also means that men who care about the movement (what's inside) are super rare 😗

Absolutely the first thing I look at is the dial. I estimate that's 30% of the value of a vintage watch. Here's the n00b chart from years ago:

It's also smart to check out the wear on any medallion or engraving on the caseback. Lugs and bezels can be recut, but a worn or polished medallion tells you a great deal about the care a watch has seen over the years and if it's been "restored" (which is an eBay synonym for "over polished").

I suppose that also means that men who care about the movement (what's inside) are super rare 😗

Yeah, we probably are. There's nothing wrong with mundane calibers as they usually are dependable, but a nice movement is what sets a great watch apart from the rest.

@dsio @Trev: What's the problem with loading photos? I can't add them from my computer nor from Imgur.

I just noticed J / @styggpyggeno1 had issues on his post in the "Omega at play" thread too.

Try now, we're banging up against storage limits again, probably need to upgrade again soon.
