Speedmasters are insane collectible now and a person can't enjoy them any more.

I respectfully disagree. ... 😀

The Speedmaster 'replica' Broad Arrows generally are pretty inexpensive compared to other Pro references.

There is only one Speedmaster without insane prices right now.

Tom to be fair, I get the feeling when you say buy a Seamaster you aren't talking 2531s, you are thinking 1960s SM300s are you not? What I mean is that the kind of Seamasters that you think are collectible are well into the Speedmaster price range so your point it isn't really valid and in any case rather depends on the wealth of the individual.

Oh and that Teutonic monstrosity you link to is rightly avoided by those with the gift of sight! 😉

He just meant the HE can't enjoy them anymore.

I think a lot of people feel that way, but just at different price ranges. You can see this really easily with Speedmasters. SMs over $10,000 do not move on the market very often even though a Rolex chronograph, if you can get it, is significantly more still.

I like seikos but I'm having a hard time justifying more than $600 for some of these prospex, presage pieces coming out. I'm starting to not be able to enjoy them anymore with some of them going above $1000.

Curious, reason being?

Photo from European Watch Company.

I agree about the value of the Seamaster. It's not meant to be a cheeky answer to the question about an affordable 321 Speedmaster.

This 105.004 is a 321, cheaper than any 321 speedy, and beautiful. Bee-you-tee-full.

I regret sharing this as I don't yet have one and want one too.

Welcome OP. By your struggles and your question, you have found your people. Enjoy the hunt.

I’m more interested in what Speedmaster the first WOTM will wear. That reference is bound to be the ‘best value’ of all references that landed on the moon.

Until it gets usurped by the first watch worn on Mars. But it would be very interesting to know if Artemis is considering wristwatches for the proposed, first woman and yet another man, 2024 landing.

Ok - 321, tritium dial, stepped dial, no swapped parts, partic no "service" or relumed or fake lumed hands, unpolished case, less than 10K...
Ok... at least we have a starting point. First, if you want a calibre 321 and it must be less than 10K... the bracelet is out. Yes, it's possible, if you take the time you can find a 145.012-67 or 68 for less then 10K, either here on the Forum, auctions or other sites. Be patient.

Examples of recent sells on OF all less then 10K, might not meet all your criteria, but most

145.006. Calibre 321 bought from a great seller on this forum. Not a Speedmaster but ticks a lot of your boxes above. Am still after a 321 Speedmaster but accept what the market is and, IMHO, you are better off buying the best watch you can find/afford, even if that means waiting. The better watches are just nicer to own and should you have to sell, simply better sellers.

There’s some beautiful watches shown here, but I find it amusing if someone asks about a Speedmaster, why post a Seamaster, good, bad or indifferent? We all know, settling for anything less than you really want will cost more in the end. OP keep focused!!

Could just mean the best valued Speedmaster is not a Speedmaster at the moment 😉

The original Mk2 by a country mile. With the exception of the racing dial version the price of the original Mk2 has barely changed in the last 10 years despite most other decent vintage pieces increasing exponentially.

Even top condition ones or chocolate dials add little to their value. I think they're incredibly undervalued still.

Of course you may not like the style, then that's a different story but IMO by far the best value Speedmaster out there.

3592.50? Nice tritium patina with pleasing yellow 863 movement. Accessible pricing too and some still unpolished / comes with original papers.

Agree, but I am heavily biased as I decided to go for the 3592.50. Tritium dials are beautiful and the 3592 combines the hesalite crystal with an open back and the lovely gilt 863 movement.

Semaster 300s are crazy priced too.

If your idea of enjoyment is spending tens of thousands on a watch you don't wear, more power to you. I enjoy wearing my watches and if I can't wear it, I don't want it.

I had a Speedmaster for 20 years and I just fell out of love with it. It was either the 2254.50 or the 3954.50 and I ended up with the Speedmaster. Got rid of it (traded it to my watchmaker for servicing a lot of watches) and got the 2254.50, which I very much enjoy wearing. I also like wearing my WatchCo Seamaster 300 with its Forstner bracelet.

I know my opinion is in the minority, but sometimes the minority needs to be heard too.
