What should I do if I lose a watch?

It will probably turn up, the challenge is to STOP thinking about it. When I’ve lost watches I never found them by looking harder.

When I lost something as a kid, my grandmother would always say "Find it with your mind." That was good advice.

You were lucky, as a kid my Grandmother used to tell me to pray to St Anthony.
It didn’t do any good then and unlikely to help now I’m afraid.

When a quick search yields no results, a systematic search of your house is what is needed @OllieOnTheRocks - room by room, inch by inch.
And delve right down the sides of your chairs and sofas - not just under the cushions but down the sides and backs of the sprung bases as well - in a spring clean we retrieved many pounds in coins that had slipped out of my pockets into gaps that we didn’t even know existed.

best of luck with your hunt.

I usually tell my wife, who starts looking for whatever I lost. She usually finds it in 10 min.

Reason? She's not shackled by biases like where I think it is or isn't.

It will probably is at the least expected place. Laundry box inside a pocket maybe? Behind the drawer you usually keep it?

Maybe check in your car.
Check the glove box, under the seats, in the trunk, etc.

You may have taken it off to go inside a sketchy place.

There is a two step solution to your problem: step one, buy a beer; step two, cry in your beer.

+1 for the laundry basket. I put stuff in my pockets all the time, then remove my trousers with it still in there.

The good news is that it'll be in the last place you look. 😉

I once misplaced one of my daily wearers, and also a favorite.. Couldn't find it anywhere!
Then finally about 5 days in - I found it! I had closed the strap and slung it over the door knob to the bathroom - doh!

Check the door knobs.. seriously. 😀

It'll be in the last place you look, guaranteed.

Whenever I lose something, it's time to clean house.

At this point I’d be sitting my four year old down and starting the Spanish Inquisition.

Mine tend to end up on a bookshelf, I think initially because it’s out of reach of sticky fingers but then I forget and rediscover it when I go to put another one in the same spot.

Good luck with the hunt.

I would ask the 4yo, for sure, but I wouldn't go blaming them based only on not knowing where I left it.

I lost my steel Connie C-shape for a few days. It turned up in the laundry basket, fortunately I saw it as I was loading the washer not as I was moving clothes into the dryer. I must have just set it down on top of the pile in the basket, probably interrupted by something.

Presumption of innocence doesn’t fly in our house based on his previous convictions. It’s my own fault for creating a mini WIS, he has three 31mm pieces in his collection.

As a matter of urgency I think the most important thing to rule out is clothing in case it goes through the wash or off to the dry cleaners.

Spent a lot of time looking for missing remotes, keys, wallets, phones, and I’m sure a watch or two. Now I know between my 4 year old and 1 year old to always look here first. 9/10 it’s in here.

It always is, because I don't keep looking for something once I've found it. 😀

Good job on finding the watch...perhaps a little work needed in the personal hygiene department? 😁

Try the laundry basket, as this little tale may explain why.

I had spent ages outside clearing the garden and at some point the clasp on my watch had come undone, after finishing for the day I came changed clothes and put a different watch on, settled down for a glass of wine, didn't think about the other watch. It was only when I went to put the other watch on the following day for phase 2 of the garden clear that I realised that the watch was awol. Couldn't find it anywhere, so garden was cleared with a naked wrist.

That evening my wife came into the lounge and asked me if I had lost anything

yes my odd job watch
well you might need to get another one
why
It was with the washing and when I emptied the washing machine it fell out and smashed on the floor

I can only assume that the watch came off with my sweatshirt and ended up in the laundry basket, had a foamy wash and unfortunately fell out the the clothes were removed. Thankfully the watch wasn't majorly expensive, just a cheap quartz.
